Summary
UnitedHealthcare CEO Brian Thompson, 50, was fatally shot in a premeditated attack outside the New York Hilton Midtown in Manhattan. The gunman, still at large, fired at Thompson multiple times, striking him in the back and calf.
Shell casings found at the scene had the words "deny," "defend," and "depose" written on them, according to law enforcement. Despite known threats, Thompson did not have a security detail.
Surveillance footage shows the assailant ambushing Thompson from behind before fleeing. The motive remains unclear as investigations continue.

Dude made the two would-be Trump assassins look like a joke. Suppressor, subsonic rounds, engraved shell casings, calmly cycles the weapon between shots. Doesn't look like anyone around even noticed what was happening.
Only the last like right next time noticed anything and not until the second shot atleast. Subtle and fast is the way it seems

I mean it still could've been, making it seem like he was some kind of folk hero would be a pretty good cover, but doing so would also be incredibly poor optics considering you're just reinforcing everyone's hatred of healthcare providers. That's assuming it's a competitor.

Allow me to play unqualified detective here: this seems too risky for a professional hit. Faking suicide seems a lot safer. Why risk doing it in public in front of witnesses and potentially in front of cops? NYC is crawling with cops on every corner, plus all the cameras everywhere. Why wouldn’t they Epstein him or you know…he accidentally “falls out a window?” Or even poison?
I think vigilante is most likely because the shooter did not have access to the victim the way a pro hitman probably would.

Right. I’m thinking of the Boeing whistleblowers. That was a big news story and clearly a professional hit job but there’s still plausible deniability. Whereas when you shoot someone on the street in Manhattan, there is no question of it being a homicide. That plus the bullet casings points to the shooter wanting it to be a huge story. And if you’re hiring a hitman, you don’t want a huge police investigation. Obviously with a “suicide” there will be a death investigation but the way the shooter carried this out pretty much guaranteed FBI involvement. I would think hitmen on a corporate payroll would want to avoid that.

Given how good the guy was at shooting an unarmed civilian I was kinda thinking it was a dirty cop which would indicate the hit theory.
However, with all this I am leaning more towards ex-military disgruntled type. I dunno. Cause you can get good at using a gun but getting good st shooting people feels like a diffrent skill to me.
I really think anyone who was big into firearms or a professional hitman probably would have tested their setup first and made sure the gun cycled with the ammo and suppressor

One could also test their setup and understand that the gun needs to be cycled manually and be prepared to do that. Not a big deal if your target is unarmed.
The way he actioned the gun after the first shot seems very practiced, it's only between 2 and 3 he seems to have trouble. Even then he clears it quickly enough for the third shot.
I think he already knew the gun with silencer and subsonics wouldn't action automatically.
Probably is hard to find a range in NY to practice shooting a silenced gun. I still think the shooting a person and not freaking out after is hard work
there are plenty of wooded areas all over the state, wouldn't be too hard to find a secluded area to go shoot for a while

50/50 if they weren't from NYC that really increases the ammount of work he had to do to prep. So the NSA could probably pinpoint them from search history Metadata. If they are a NYC resident staying at a hostel to create a fake trail is a good plan also
I'm so so on the fake trail thing, considering it leaked photos of their face for no reason, but depends how sophisticated they were, could be done in a way that really throws the feds off their scent or it could be just sloppiness
