People say "maybe we should just nuke the entire Middle East and cut all relations with Mexico" on a regular basis with complete disregard for the consequences. Username checks out, and while that may be true in that America could for sure fuck us up, they also did that to Afghanistan and Iraq and Vietnamese etc without even the harder goal of full annexation. They just wanted a government that was beneficial in power which is already the case here. Afghanistan and Iraq had a lot more to lose and were less comfortable in the first place, chances are it'd be through soft power annexation happens anyway but regardless America is really bad at winning wars.
