in my experience, librarians tend to be either very cool, very weird, or both
Because homeless people are technically allowed to be there
Ok but private businesses don't voluntarily pay the cops, why do libraries?
Yeah I was introduced to the idea of Library Socialism by the Srsly Wrong podcast and the idea is super appealing
A small far out libertarian party on my country one complained about how libraries were decreasing the labour supply. Basically the argument was that since the unemployed could go there and be online for free they would sit there all day instead of looking for work. And since they could have free books at the library they would not be as motivated to get a job in order to be able to pay for books.
They are.
For many years they handed out free Ayn Rand books. When the previous right-wing government slashed benefits ushering in a kind of desperate poverty we hadn't had here for decades they celebrated with champagne.
One of their MP's once had a blog where he once famously claimed that women have no honour, their chairman has a sentence for football hooliganism and has posted picture of himself from a shooting range captioned "ready to battle the reds". Their third MP used to be some sort of demsoc but has now gravitated to being angry about "left wing fascism" and claiming that radical Islamists and feminists are going to make "normal biological women" oppressed.
Gods Around but libertarians really drive me up a wall. How disconnected from reality can you possibly be.
That's horrifying, inhumane, and completely consistent with neoliberalism.
Yeah I always just took em for granted but the fact that they've more or less survived neo-liberalization is incredible. I'd really love to live in a town with a tool library at some point, even tho I'm getting my own tools anyways for work. It'd just be real neat to live in a place that made that sort of thing available.
i had never heard of such a thing and just found out there's one pretty nearby where i am.
Wait, what is with a police budget? Most libraries I know of don't really have that. They just liaison with the police for trouble-making patrons that need to be gone (public masturbators, people that won't leave when politely asked due to violations in policy, etc.)
public masturbators
We aren't all "troublemakers", you know. Please walk a mile in someone else's shoes before you judge.
I would put on my shoes but for some reason they are entirely filled with cum! Who let Ben Garrison over? This is ridiculous
Most libraries I know of don’t really have that. They just liaison with the police for trouble-making patrons
That's what YOU think.
Fuck I read libertarian multiple times in this thread cause I'm a big dumb who needs to go to the library more
a degree in libraries specifically? i'm trying to figure out what the hell to do after college, and being a librarian sounds dope
Huh, I might consider that. My other idea was getting an IT tech certification, but idk if that's even an option with my degree not being in that field.
