Getting comfortable in bed and remembering you forgot that one thing and now you gotta make another god forsaken journey after you got comfortable, especially because you know you won't get that comfy again.

This is worse when you have to sleep with multiple pillows in different places (in between/under the knees, etc) due to a chronic condition, and then you need to get up and readjust 4 different sets of pillows afterwards. Never feel comfortable

When you're trying to expand a section of a videogame wiki and then an ad loads into the space where you just put your finger. I swear to Christ those sites load the ads last for that exact purpose. Fuck you games wiki sites.

I haven't seen an ad on the internet in years. Pihole/Adguard home, Ublock origin and YouTube vanced are the way to go these days

I've got ublock on my computer, but do you have a recommendation for adblocking on mobile? I already use vanced, but I've never been able to get browser ads to go away :angery:

I use Pihole/Adguard home type software on my home network. It's a DNS level ad blocker that basically runs a DNS server on the network that blocks ads there. I run it on an old laptop in my closet. You can also run it on a raspberry pi or similar.

Alternatively you can use Firefox preview on mobile, you can use Ublock on that. Alternatively you can change the DNS/private dns in your network settings to one of Adguard's servers

If I keep my PC on at all times, can it do the same thing your old laptop does? That is to say, run a DNS server that blocks ads coming through the router, so that when my phone is connected to the Wi-Fi it doesn't see them? I can live with still seeing ads when I'm out of my house.

Actually, if you'd indulge me, I have one more question. Does the speed of the device running the adguard software limit your browsing speed or your overall internet speed? Does the internet traffic actually get rerouted through the device, or does it just work like a fishing net, pulling out ads as they pass?

No it doesn't effect the speed of your internet, it just handles DNS requests, not the actual data passing through. No internet traffic gets routed through the device, just the DNS requests of your router. It could cause a slowdown if it got a ton of requests at once, but that's negligible. I just checked and on my computer it says the average processing time is 35 milliseconds, so a miniscule effect.

The worst when I used to drive was when I was doing 130kph/80mph (already over the speed limit of 120kph/75mph) and some asshole comes directly behind at over 160kph/100mph in their lifted Ford Ranger truck. Like seriously do these people want to die?

It's worse because I was already driving on/slightly over the limit on a two lane undivided highway (one lane for each traffic direction, so septation/island between lanes). To overtake you need to go into the oncoming traffic lane, and there's plenty of trucks/semis on the road. And sometimes these assholes don't even check for oncoming traffic and just fly past at 160kph/100mph. Complete death wish honestly

Worse if you combine it with the day you paint your nails. Unless you get gels, polish takes a few hours to properly harden. Can't even take a nap because you'll ruin 'em.

How do you do CPR? I've heard the mouth-to-mouth thing has fallen out of favour or something.

      • ElChango [he/him]

The main goal of CPR is to get blood flowing to the brain. This is done by putting your hands over the heart (lower half of the sternum) and pushing down for a depth of 2 inches. Allow the chest to come back up, then keep compressing the chest at a rate of 100-120 bpm. That's pretty much it! Basically, you are manually pumping a person's heart after it has stopped beating.

Breathing is still part of CPR, but it hasn't been the main of feature for over a decade now, and the American Heart Association hasn't referred to it as "mouth-to-mouth" in over 20 years.

Yup. I'm actually a cpr trainer, so that's why it's a pet peeve.

In the past, we still taught CPR as 30 compressions and 2 breaths, and explained that people had the option of just doing straight compressions without the breaths. But since all this started, we've been told by the AHA, in no uncertain terms, that we should not be practicing rescue breathing at this time and for the foreseeable future.

Romantic subplots DESTROYED by a WORLDWIDE PANDEMIC

But yeah, it's ridiculous how little attention movies give to chest compressions. Most people will only have them as a frame of reference so it's always a wasted teaching opportunity.

My biggest gripe is that they just do it for dramatic effect - when it really could be shown correctly, and millions of people would subconsciously know how to do it right.

The hand placement is usually off - too high or too low. They don't show realistic rates of compressions, and they don't show realistic depth of chest compression (although I understand they wouldn't be able to do that to an actor). Also, the number of compressions in a set is usually wrong, and they spend waaay too much time dicking around, fumbling with the breaths, beating on the chest (silly) and then after all that drama, only to give up and say 'fuck it' after 30 seconds.

It looks weird when I try to smile with my mouth open. Like my neck gets all tense and it looks like I'm in pain. Every time I see people on TV smiling widely I get resentful.

Maybe it's because you're trying to smile with your mouth open, if you relax and let it come naturally, you probably won't get tense. Also, this sounds like something that nobody else would notice or think about. We've all got insecurities after all

Generally, people talking with food in their mouth. Politically, it would be second gen Americans calling themself "second gen" because by that point it means nothing.
