Cursed country. Stock pensions and 401ks keep US workers lucky enough to have savings tangentially invested in the fossil-fuel economy and the war machine, if they don't actively choose to tell their portfolio managers to divest from those industries. For this very perverse reason I'm glad most young US workers are never going to see a dime of that blood money their whole lives because it keeps them more untethered from those material interests.

If we're using the metric of the lifespan of Chinese civilization which has cycled through shorter-lived regimes and empires, American "civilization" would clock in as approximately 0.4 of a millennium old. OR if we consider it an extension with "western civilization", the continuity goes back about 2.5 millennia, though still a lot younger regardless.
