Being a medical professional, unfortunately, doesn't exempt one from being a chud and all the brainworms that come with that. A friend recently told me her mother -- an RN -- is conservative and has a bunch of awful Covid takes.

I'm listening to the new street fight radio episode and they said a lot of the nursing home workers in ohio are "hillbilly moms" because it's a pretty good job you can get with just a high school diploma, and I'm pretty sure in most states you can get a job like that without going to college.
I'm not saying that everyone who doesn't go to college is an anti-vax idiot/everyone who does go to college is hella smart and will get vaccinated, just that jobs like that can be the best option for less-educated people
Considering how front-line workers have been thrown into this mess unequipped, under paid and overworked, I can understand why many are hesitant to take the vaccine. Why would those in charge start giving a shit about their health now?

The last paper I read (nature) cited more than 50% of people receiving an mRNA vaccine develop a bad headache and or fever. And nearly 100% got those at dose 2. While there was nearly no side effects from the coronavac vaccine.
Saying that, a headache and fever are not bad if the vaccine is effective -the long term side effects of covid are seemingly much much worse.
Girlfriend got the vaccine and was dizzy for like two days. She also had covid in April and was basically bedridden for three weeks so you better bet I'm getting that needle as soon as I can.
I was always saying that heard immunity was a pipe dream because even once a vaccine was available, tons of people wouldn't trust it and would refuse to take it, but the numbers from the front line workers someone else linked are even worse than I thought
I've agonized over the decision long enough, but the pros are far greater for taking the vaccine. We know what the consequences for getting Covid-19 are. That should be enough to take the vaccine.
That said.... IF there was some sort of major long-term side effect of taking the vaccine, even in like 2-3% of people, there's ZERO chance they would reveal it to the public. ZERO. They desperately need the vaccines to be marketed as the do-all band-aid.
*If I had gotten some asymptomatic diagnosis for Covid-19 or tested positive for the antibodies, hell no would I take the vaccine, however.
It has to be more effective to just give the vaccine to whoever wants it right? I mean there are doses going bad in storage.
Absolutely insane that we have enough doses for like 0.05% of the population but we can't even handle distributing that many without huge fuckups

I got one today way earlier than I should have for exactly this reason. A scheduling fuck up resulted in a batch that was prepared and going to go off in a few days. Use it or lose it.
it's really something. the mRNA vaccines are a miracle that surpasses the salk polio vaccine. yet so many people don't give a shit.
they were researching the mRNA technique for a long time to treat cancer, so it was expected the technique would make a fuckton of money that way. there wasn't so much interest in using it for infectious disease afaik, until this happened. vaccines typically don't make much money. take for example the Lyme vaccine, so many antivax idiots sued them that it isn't available anymore. your dog can get one, but not you. because of course soaking yourself head to toe in DEET is a totally harmless alternative.
I'd take the Chinese vaccine day 1 if it were given to me, no questions asked.

yeah the amount of people i've heard casually saying "i don't mind waiting [an arbitrary amount of time] to get the vaccine" and it's honestly shocking in a way. i feel like antivaxx people have subconsciously or consciously altered people's opinions about vaccination or some shit. or i simply just didn't realize how many people are sketched out by vaccines. i've had at least 12 different ones (international traveling and the usual ones) and never had an issue and have no reason to doubt it would be an issue now. Most people who went to public school (at least in CA??) have had a lot of vaccines.
Covid-19 is fucking serious shit, and there is a serious underreporting of people with long lasting side effects after recovering from covid. even healthy people who have a very high survival rate doesn't necessarily translate to not having any long lasting, possibly permanent damage to their respiratory system or their brains or other minor effects. It's frustrating to hear to say the least, especially for otherwise rational and normal people.
Got the moderna vaccine 2 days ago. My arm hurts a little but besides that nothing different. Ama i guess
Lmao nah, they just tell you to ask for the 2nd dose of the same kind. But theoretically it shouldn't matter. They're like the same vaccine, only difference is some of the inactive stabilizing ingredients. The goal is to get a stronger immune reaction from the second dose and so your body is gonna recognize the spike protein from either vaccine.
