You guys know there are actual outspoken fascists and stuff to deal with right? Like this was funny at first but the fact this so soaking up so much attention really says a lot about the western left’s priorities

Trust me, I didn't go looking for it. I check mainstream news sites to see what people are focusing on and noticed the bean guy was on the front page of a European public broadcaster.

He actually said this before the worst of the tweets surfaced. At this point he was just defending his friend from accusations of child abuse and the first couple tweets that seemed pretty satirical. He’s gone silent since then

Its not as if there would also be a global pandemic going on with tens of thousands and thousands dead. However I do also side with the kid, we are against all oppression, but also against oppression of limiting the field of discourse by bourgeoisie news media.

Critical support for bean kid against bean dad imperialism

I’m pretty sure the kid wants her dad not to be media crucified and become a public pariah. Do you think this spectacle has any actual consideration for the well-being of the kid? The way you phrased that was weird..

Sometimes you see clear cut child abuse. Sometimes people hype it, but honestly, from the second degree stuff one could gather about bean dad it is better for the kid to not have 9-12 years more of his abuse without knowing that there are people who would've supported them. Speaking as someone who has a few experiences with abusive parenting.

I've listened to John's podcasts for something like 10 years now (my username is actually a reference to one of his bits) nd I honestly don't think he is racist, anti-semitic, etc. He is, however, guilty of "edgy" ironic and sarcastic tweets, which have not aged well and were probably not a good idea in the first place. In all of the "Bean Dad" drama, I don't think I've seen anyone point out that he's been incredibly open about his struggle with bipolar disorder and this pile-on is kind of gross in that light . Like I told a friend, I'd probably be more sympathetic about his tweets being mischaracterized if he hadn't spent the past year mischaracterizing Bernie and other leftists. (The man recently spent a few post-election podcasts talking about how he is a proud liberal.) Anyway, this is not a hill I'm willing to die on, so that's all I have to say except don't use your real name when posting ironic comments because they will be taken out of context.

I honestly don't think the whole "figure it out" thing was that awful, even if there weren't any exaggeration—which I suspect there was. But I am old (not as old as John, but old) and I am guessing there's a generational divide here.

Figure it out is fine making it an intensely frustrating experience and making it lastbbn 6 hours was not, there's a point where the kid gets the basic mechanism but it hasn't clicked just how to hold it that's when he should have taught her seemed early on and would have been fine

Oh, no, don't worry i'm not trying to cancel anyone; i genuinely don't care about twitter drama between strangers on the other side of the world. I just think saying "On our show he's always the pro-Israel one!" and thinking that automatically prevents anti-semitism is funny and also peak :LIB:

Yeah definitely a knee jerk cringe take. He’s cornered and caught off guard about his friend, this defense was also before the worst tweets came up. He’s gone radio silent so I assume he’s working this out and will come back with a statement. Omnibus is done I think.

      uhhh, yes?

like, you dont need to publically drag your friend, but if your friend is being tied to weird racist shit maybe dont publically defend them either if you dont want to get slapped with the same brush.

maybe instead be like "hey @friendlyfriendo wtf is up with this?" and have a little chat about it next time you bring the spouse and kids over for a bbq
