Trump might be more harmful in the long run because he radicalised some neocons into fascists but his policies weren’t as harmful. Dubya killed way more, he was much worse.

Yes unequivocally he just didn’t agitate the libs as much which says a lot about what they actually care about

The only argument I can see for Trump being worse is Coronavirus, which is pretty weak because not only does that have more to do with the circumstances than the person, Trump isn't singularly to blame for the awful US response.

Yeah, the Bush admin would have talked about the science, the challenges of fighting it, got people to rally around it, and hundreds of thousands of people still would have died but the Democrats would be playing up unity and cheering them on. Katrina alone proved they didn't give the slightest shit about mass American death, never mind their death count abroad. You know they would have spun it better though.

I think it's debatable whether the actual state response would have been better in a substantive sense, but I wonder how much the pandemic was exacerbated by the fact that Trump basically convinced his base it was fake and turned masks into a culture war thing.

I don't even buy that Dubya would have been better in response. In all honestly, I think the response would have been exactly the same except with a whole lot more fake Christian shit about gods plan.

This is actually pretty unlikely, as Dubya got freaked out by some book about pandemics, and built a huge framework for fighting pandemics, which Trump shut down because it was "wasting money since there's not even a pandemic right now"

Playing Devil's advocate and/or thinking out loud for a moment:

I generally agree based on the democratic response to it (Lol..."open the healthcare exchanges") that things wouldn't have been much better under a democratic administration....but I sometimes wonder if we're being uncharacteristically fair to Trump on this point for the sake of being incendiary and contrarian to the annoying libs who want to rehabilitate bush.

The 2008 financial crash may have happened under Bush but it was the result of economic policies that far predated him that clinton era dems led the charge on. I don't think any of us think that's a good enough reason to give him a pass though.

Ultimately I still think Bush was worse and prior to Covid it wouldn't even be a contest...but I think there's probably at least a debate to be had now.

As long as there are a million dead in Iraq, there is no contest.

Dubya is miles worse. How many torture dungeons did Donny sign off on? How many countries did he destabilize?

You’re just touching the surface. We could go on and on for days about all the awful shit bush did. Every day it was a new thing and it wasn’t simply breaking decorum.

Check out Brendan James' podcast: Blowback.

He is worse, as was his administration, and the exacerbation or perhaps justification of the continuation of the violent nature of American white supremacy and its expression within the middle east.

I don't believe in the death penalty, but oubliette is far too kind a fate.

Dubya was worse. His nominees were all extremely competent neocon ghouls. Trump’s people were all mired by catty squabbling. Kavanaugh might be the exception, and not to shrug off the Supreme Court, but the GWB administration has clearly had a lasting effect on the military/intelligence machine. One major effect is Dems now idolize military/spooks. Wasn’t quite as bad under Clinton or before.

The one doubt I had in my mind is on domestic issues where I can see the case for Trump being worse. Extremists on the right has been enabled.

Do you think invading Iraq didn't enable right-wing extremists there?
