The Prom-ification of politics: an essay.
Seriously, what the hell is that?
Bernie takes a tab and rambles incoherently about the vibes of the crowd for 5 hours
"the people in the stands deserve goo balls. Not just the people on the floor, not just the people with VIP packages. All the fans."
Theres a poem being read today by a poet with a stutter, now all power to this lady for being a professional and well known poet and for overcoming her speech impediment
but also fuck that lady for letting the liberal media fawn over her just because she shares that with Biden, and they need every single infinitesimally small positive to be paraded in front of all of us in the desperate hope more people don't notice he's the rotting corpse of a segregationist rapist. Her poetry, that I heard on NPR, is also weak ineffectual bullshit that might as well have been an extended and even more pretentious pete buttigeig quote
in short: I agree, but only because it's america. In a socialist country having artists create art to express meaning of the occasion is cool actually, its just that here "art" is who can use the prettiest words to talk about freedom and love of country
Biden does not have a stutter they literally invented that line last year after he was being mocked for dementia gaffes. Propaganda all the way down
They're using it as an excuse to say that his gaffes and his brain leaking out of his ears is nothing, it's just his stutter
That's why he can't remember anything or even get out one line about, the- uh, well, y'know, you know the thing-
Haha the lady on CNN said something about like, "She has ties to my alma mater, Harvard."
Fuckin Harvard people. That's one stereotype that's very true.
Celebrities in USA are a de facto part of American national security apparatus. Propaganda and brand ambassadors for any war or PR campaign.
When Ellen came out as a lesbian way back in the 90s, automated sentiment analysis programs lit up a map in the Pentagon bright red. The military then interfered with the comment section, astroturfing every negative comment.
When a celebrity stops dancing to the empire's tune, the same dogs that nurture the image will begin to attack it.
Ellen came out in the 90's and the backlash was huge, she was actually "cancelled" over it
now she can't even be cancelled for being a genuinely awful human being.
Don't want to go full r/atheism but the religious figures are weird too
Came here to say this. The American state is our national religion. It got dangerously close to being our national sport for the past 15 years, which was too unstable for the state's liking. The entertainment figures are there to tie the whole thing into the everyday spectacle of the American cinematic universe.
For all the shit the US ripped off from the Romans the divinity of the state stuff has been the most effective at colonizing people's brains
if pete would've won we would've had 20 minutes of high hopes ❤️🥰😍♥️ k i l l m e
What about the proposalification of proms? Seriously why does asking someone to prom have to be a whole ass proposal thing? What the hell is that?
Yeah, that shit had just started to get rolling when I was a senior in high school. I think the most ridiculous part is how people already in a relationship were expected to do a promposal. Like, duh, you're going to prom together. Why make a big spectacle of it? Putting so much hype behind it (and prom in general) is just setting yourself up for disappointment. Thankfully, I was able to sidestep all of that by inviting someone from another school, and my zero-expectations prom experience was a good one.
I'm sure not all kids do elaborate promposals--not even most--but regardless, I feel bad that they feel pressured to make these big gestures and may feel somehow lesser for opting out.
ah yeah by the time I got to high school it was pretty much mandatory for every dance. Kinda sucked, if you didn't you probably wouldn't get a yes, I knew more than a few people who just asked and they were told "sure but you gotta do a promposal thing"
Damn, that blows. I feel like I got through high school in the nick of time. It was just when Facebook was starting to hit its stride outside of university students, but before people started to plan everything through Facebook, and also before Instagram was popular. I look at my younger brother who's grown up with a smartphone in his hand and an array of social media accounts to manage and really feel for him. I have no tolerance for boomers who shit on zoomers for being self-absorbed or glued to their phones or whatever...that shit is hell, and it's a hell meticulously crafted for us by Silicon Valley just so they can sell advertisements and user data.
I hate smartphones and the internet so much, I've talked to many friends and we all have mentioned how lonely they make you feel and how much they suck. I wish I could go without it but it's so structured into our lives that it's necessary. If I could have been born before or at least not have had them available I would in a heartbeat.
Not to mention the shit you see online definitely too young
Lady Gaga’s national anthem bit is amusingly bad
The common-timeification of the anthem is a real life measure of American decay
I appreciate that she dressed like some villian from the hunger games. Made a boring song pretty hilarious.
its literal cringe. I'm grateful for trump now because I cant unsee how much pageantry and ideology is involved in this system.
I was trying to listen to wnyc/NPR, and as far as liberal media goes they're the most tolerable for me, and it actually causes a physical pain.
Dude we fuckg know alright? Its "The American Civil Religion", it's like the thing the Brits have where they won't guillotine their queen.
How am I supposed to know if a politician is good if the Black Eyed Peas didnt say so? They only ever do good and certainly never had a big hit single with an ableist slur as the chorus!
"Let's get it started" was actually "Let's get r******d" but was censored for the radio. Shit's wild
"Bob your head like epilepsy, up inside the club or in your Bentley"
