Address to send food and coffee:

772 Edgewater Rd

Bronx, NY 10474

(Thanks guys and yes this address is public too so no worries)

These strikers (1400 strong) were not even compensated an extra $1 per hour while being responsible for 60% of NYC’s fresh produce and providing produce for 30 million+ people in the NYC area. They’ve worked long and dangerous hours during the pandemic with no compensation and they are standing up!

You should all be aware that instead of public I accidentally wrote pubic at first. Call the volcel police on me please

It is super helpful when people send food and coffee so I’m just trying to get the word out best I can!

Grubhub and doordash both deliver to there but there are a lot of restaurants that are within delivery range of the picket line that you can find on Yelp as well. Just write in the delivery instructions to leave it with the picket line!

It’s easiest to use Grubhub or DoorDash though if you’re not in the area. Anybody can order delivery to this location and quite a few already have!

            How many people are there?

Like if I sent 2 pizzas would that be not close to enough?

you're probably good to send them and they'll figure out how to distribute on that end, especially if they regularly have stuff being brought in

          NYCDSA STRIKE FUND:

          https://cash.app/$NYCDSATreasurer

Put "teamsters 202" in the memo.

Mods, does this somehow break any rules? I can promise I'm not grifting, this was posted on our local DSA FB page.

Teamsters for all their problems have insane energy most unions lack

Teamsters remember when they were literally breaking kneecaps.

I hope they return to their roots

Because the mob could take over the union, and have its leaders act on the mob's orders. For example having dock workers striking over mob business with the dock management instead of for worker benefits. This worked in the fifties because socialists and other dedicated organizers got forced out of union leadership by the state.

My take is that the Teamsters, which at times were a revolutionary union (and often were not), were/are therefore a criminal organization. They need financing and sometimes they needed to outsource dirty work. I'm not saying there's nothing to critique here, but they've used a willingness to exist outside the law to create what might be the most effective and long lasting leftwing organization in the history of the US.

:galaxy-brain: FACT CHECK: "Engineer had just left his phone back in Ohio so he had to go back, when he returns to Ohio he will get his phone and a replacement engineer from Pinkerton will return the train to NY to deliver the goods. No class consciousness happening, keep up the good work Teamsters!"

Hopefully he’s sending his friend engineer who also is forgetful and left his garage open so he has to go back to Ohio as well!

Why aren't ALL the teamsters on strike? They wouldn't even get close to a strike if the the possibility of the UPS and trucking teamsters joining in was a possibility, not to mention all the other industries they represent.

Because this is a democracy and solidarity strikes are illegal in the US. An action like that would be met with unbelievable amounts of state violence.

Did that last night and they got delivered even though I used the wrong address because I just told them “just hand it to the picket line” so they knew what I meant since they’re all in the area

I know there’s a Dunkin’ down the street that has coffee pitchers that serve ten but I’d rather support a local business if possible.

But anything to keep morale up is awesome

I am also curious about this. I remember when I was in High School the teachers union went on strike, and the local population, specifically the parents, saying that they were being greedy. I remember at the time thinking "oh cool, I get some time off school to dick around and play video games" but in retrospect it's crazy to me how there is zero sense of solidarity between people who work different jobs.

In Canada last year, there were rail blockades by indigenous groups in protest of a pipeline being built through unceded land (more info here: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/2020_Canadian_pipeline_and_railway_protests).

The media narrative targeted the legitimacy of the protests by trying to claim that the leadership of the various peoples had agreed, and most people fell in line behind that narrative. After a little while of stalling and saying "We can do this peacefully!", Trudeau sent in the pigs to forcibly dismantle the protests.

From my limited perspective: Your average NDPer (SocDems) were annoyed at packages being delayed a couple days, and generally sided with the cops.

Your average Liberal were deepthroating the boot and trembling in fear of the line going down.

Your average Conservative was basically saying we should kill anyone who protests oil.

Basically, it all comes down to the portrayal of the movement by the media. If they can discredit it, or even just muddy the waters enough, people will be neutral at best.
