Not embarrassing at all. No Sir.
Just really fucking cool.
the people who are taking this seriously are pretty embarassing tbh. both the "THIS IS PRAXIS" and the the "nooooo! stonks bad!" crowd.
this shit really isn't that deep. a bunch of reddit memesters are almost causing a market crash and people here find it interesting and wanna talk about it. fucking chill.I mean yeah but it has a non zero chance of triggering a pretty big financial meltdown, that's pretty dope in of itself.
Communism is an economic system
Crazy economic things are happening
Communists want to talk about it
:surprised-pika:
Also, if you are going to retire you have to have some skin in the stock market.
Retiring on just SS is not a happy place. True leftists would want to help other leftists no matter the system they find themselves in.
Talking about it and actively engaging it aren't the same.
Already in there, some people are acting exactly like parasites, talking about the next gme to jump on, and how they have no sympathy for those who might be left holding the bag, or even who didn't/don't jump in because they don't want to risk their emergency funds.
Not everyone, but it's there, and like a cancer, it'll spread if it isn't excised.
You're not excited by the chance to participate communally in the biggest kick to the hedge-capitalists in recent history? While watching the contradictions intensify to an unheard of degreee? wtf.
I would happily buy 50 dollars of GME, if I had a fucking brokerage account, and hold it forever if it contributed to this kind of acceleration.
The class conciousness I've seen on reddit in the last few days is unprecedented imo.
lol, if we're talking about either /r/wsb or reddit as a whole, I've seen more takes about "secret government interference" and demands to "free the free market", than realizations that the system of capitalism itself is inherently rotten and irreformable.
Genuninely think you're wrong on this, although I have heard kinda lib takes linking the alt right or whatever to the whole thing ( jack allison on latest ep of struggle session)
I've been seeing massively upvoted posts/memes about class war, class conciousness.....about tearing the system down, not reforming it to make capitalism better. Plz don't ask me to find them.
Fash want to tear the system down too.
And libs love to appropriate radical terms when they really just mean modest reforms
The Masters Of The Universe types were venerated on WSB up until very recently. If you can't see massive opportunities here I don't know what to tell you.
I'm not seeing lib posters looking for modest reforms either, or looking for the system to go back to the former normal. The curtain has been pulled back for them.
Where is there good analysis on possible protofash influences on wsb? Bobert Bevans? He's probably got the connections lol
you gotta see the positive side of libs appropriating your words - it means you're winning. it means that your ideas are popular enough that the only way for them to make sense of everything is to pay lip service. get ready for more lefties coming down the pipeline
i dont have any skin in his, but if something like this ever happens again i will. you can hardly begrudge people for trying to make a buck in this hellworld we live in. and im sorry i don't have any sympathy for people who go in this beyond their means. Even in the den of evil, WSB itself, every fifth person is telling you not to ruin your life gambling on the stock market.
You should, though, because who the fuck knows what's happening regarding further stimulus and many people are looking at looming debt and eviction on the horizon, so they're putting in the savings they have now in the hopes they'll pull out enough to weather the coming storm.
I mean, they shouldn't, and a socialist website shouldn't be engaging in it, but I totally understand why some people are playing with fire.
So you walk like a capitalist and talk like a capitalist, but call yourself a socialist.
Good to know.
Being upset that some people on here are making like $200 is some big brained "oh you hate capitalism yet use and iPhone" shit.
Yeah, that is definitely the point. I'm so upset right now, I'm gonna shid my pants.
I think it's annoying how so much of you can be so damn angry all the time about literally anything. Get a fucking grip. Go out and get laid, or if you're not into that eat some ice cream or something.
the most amazing part is that these people are fuming, yet when someone tries to engage they deflect, say some memey shit or try to dunk. these people just want some drama and moral superiority over others.
One of my lib friends has been radicalized by this stupid stock shit and me gently nudging him along which is awesome but the fact that fucking admins on this site are STILL encouraging people to waste their money on this performative garbage is telling.
Making a fucking stocks gambling comm when users (including myself) have been requesting a personal finance comm for months is a slap in the face.
It's deeply disappointing that "we can radicalize them!" has been used as an excuse to encourage poor people to throw away what little money they have to pointlessly demonstrate something that's already been clearly demonstrated. And even more concerning is the encouragement of doing it for the chance of getting more money (which is extremely unlikely at this point).
I guess I should've seen it coming tbh, beatnik has admitted to being a PMC ghoul. Extremely cringe.
Posts ... were spamming up main
I've said it once I've said it a thousand times. Bad posts like OPs are going to keep coming down the pike if you let posters post the sort of post this poster's post is posting about.
I’ve said it once I’ve said it a thousand times. Bad posts like OPs are going to keep coming down the pike if you let posters post.
Poster's posts posting posts posturing post-post positions poses problems.
You're right, if we don't ban all posters, they'll keep making bad posts.
The only way to have no bad posts is to have no posts at all.
Making a fucking stocks gambling comm when users (including myself) have been requesting a personal finance comm for months is a slap in the face.
Do you realize how taking community creation decisions as a personal affront comes across?
Not a personal affront to me, more like the community as a whole. A lot of people here would probably be helped by a comm dedicated to being smart with your money. Few people will be helped by a stock market gambling comm, and a lot will be directly harmed. If they actually convert it to a personal finance comm like they say they will then that's good but allowing the "stocks gambling is praxis, actually" bullshit to propagate in the meantime is a bad move imo.
If you look at the modlog you'll see upward of a dozen threads posted to main removed and redirected about this today give it's the biggest news story of the week because of our incredibly dumb economy, media, and callous disregard to an ongoing pandemics.
The new comm is pretty obviously a way to contain all of those in one place. So trying to treat that unique situation as a judgement on your other comm proposals or anything else doesn't make that much sense.
How do you feel about this extremely normal post? https://hexbear.net/post/78279
It's not exclusively a containment comm though. If it was a containment comm it should've been called something like wallstreetnews or stonks or something like that and make it clear that it's not for advice on investing/gambling. Specifically calling it wallstreetbets sends the message that it's meant to serve the same purpose as /r/wallstreetbets, and if you browse the comm it's clear that people are interpreting it that way.
Or you could call it /c/wallstreetbets because the event was caused by /r/wallstreetbets, and discussions about the new developments in the saga as well as discussions about how to get involved in the gambling would would be posted in /r/wallstreetbets on reddit.
It is designed to replicate the function of /r/wallstreetbets, and keep those posts off of main. That's the definition of a containment community.
Ok. It seems like we're not going to convince each other of anything so I don't see a point in further debate honestly. Hope you have a good night :penguin-love:
Making a fucking stocks gambling comm when users (including myself) have been requesting a personal finance comm for months is a slap in the face.
Oh shut the fuck up lmao
This place actually feels like chapo for once
This is the simple, correct answer and it's astonishing how many people get lost in the debate about whether this makes one Not A Good Leftist.
that’s the only conversation that ever happens here. every single thread is to some degree about how everyone is wrong and not going to leftie heaven. its stupid as fuck
For real, this has infected every single part of the internet, and beyond. I saw it on all discord servers I'm on, and all the subreddits I checked. Of course it was going to come to Chapo too - and the new comm at least keeps it centralized and allows uninterested users to filter it out. If only for modding reasons, the new comm was a necessary thing.
Uh...a stock trading board? Wow really fucking cool guys. I did not have chapo.chat becoming a capitalist site on my 2021 bingo card. Like, what? I thought c/electoralism was bad last year but then 2021 is like "hold my beer" and we get stocks. Yeah, that just happened.
Try telling the labour aristos here that lol
They live comfortably enough to gamble on the market and have the gall to call themselves poorTbh I think people here in general are a little uh more misanthropic than I'd expect from leftists
I'm poor as shit and follow stonks because I think the upsie and downsie line is fun(ny) to watch.
I'd like to be able to discuss it with leftists lol, I don't see why acknowledging the existence of the stock market should be forbidden here.
It's people trying to get in on a major economic shake up, it'd be all (and was originally) over main if it wasn't there.
Or the posts could just be removed instead of making a comm for it
The mods should allow everything I want and nothing anyone else wants and definitely not things that other people want that I performatively don't want.
Well it can only possibly manifest on this site in a play-acted fashion so to act like it isn't perfomative would be to performatively enter a reality that doesn't exist.
My point is publicly acting out the anguish at not liking what other people are harmlessly doing but also not being able to stop then makes you seem like a toddler.
We should never mock things, disagree with things, or call things out, got it
I think I remember you from the "fun is fascism" twitter thread.
See if someone said that to me my defense would have been "I dont think fun is fascism".
I don't
Stock trading isn't harmless fun though
Desperate people are going to get fucked by this fiasco, by getting swept up in the hype wave and following questionable advice from people on this boardYes, the swarms of people with the liquidity and existing approved Robinhood accounts that are going to stumble upon the subcommunity of a podcast's unofficial subreddit's knock-off website and agencylessly have all their money gambled away unless you can successfully inveigh against it in the Jeremiac tradition.
If you're going to debatebro me could you at least talk like a person
I have no idea who tf you are bud and i am far too tired to untangle the weird
Idk I'd just like a place to talk about this stuff without having to deal with chud boards.
It's interesting for me, and a lot of people on here. Obviously if the site at large decides it is toxic for the community then I wouldn't argue , but until then I'm kind of happy I have a place to browse this shit without getting called a slur.
This isn't wsb though lol. They just gave it the name temporarily.
If I wanted regular reddit wsb I'd go over there.
Uh…a stock trading board? Wow really fucking cool guys. I did not have chapo.chat becoming a capitalist site on my 2021 bingo card. Like, what? I thought c/electoralism was bad last year but then 2021 is like “hold my beer” and we get stocks. Yeah, that just happened.
Bro you tried to start a paper trading game. Don't act like you weren't really enjoying this like the rest of us.
I'm being facetious to the OP. I'm just really good at sarcasm. Of course I don't care that we have a r/wsb. I'm one of the ones who said we should have it.
Whenever I use this website I am in a full suit and tie with Phil Collins' Genesis playing in the background.
If I had control of my bowels, I would stop farding.
But alas, that is beyond my grasp.
:deeper-sadness:
As opposed to the totally non embarrassing rest of the time
Sure, but is that a valid excuse to actively make it even worse?
yeah there's some bad takes in this thread
good criticism good, self-crit better, but a lot of this reads like just lazily trying to drive a wedge
tbf all you need to do to drive a wedge on this website is have an opinion on literally anything.
seriously, sometimes it feels exhausting to be a leftist with all these purity tests and struggle sessions.
Just make a separate finance comm, people want a place to post memes about this shit, why mix those?
All of these people criticizing when this is the most fun the site has been in months, it's like chapos need to hate someone in order to persist.
Making the wsb comm is good to contain the posts and CLEARLY shows people want to post about it, given how active it is. Don't give in to some fucking wreckers complaining that it should be nuked and turned into a serious finance board when it would be easier and better to just make a separate serious finance comm.
My family was thoroughly and completely fucked apart by the 2008-09 market shit show, we are all still very poor from it.
Since then I have always been interested in the market, in the same way that I am also interested in watching hurricanes during the hurricane season.
It is nice to have a board on here to watch this sort of thing without having to delve through chud vitriol.
I'm not saying that people shouldn't talk about it, but the fact that the mods made it a comm, and that something like 70% of the posts here the last 36 hours have been about this is some massive r*ddit-brain shit.
I thought we were supposed to be better than that, but apparently not.
Its ok to wanr to follow the spectacle now and again, life is fucking boring sometimes, especially during this perpetual lockdown.
Also you can follow it and be excited/interested but also simultaneously aware that the stock market is complete bullshut and shouldn't exist, wsb is full of reactionaries, Elon musk cultists etc
I mean its the biggest fuck you to wall st. by the average person in awhile if not ever in the US. Even if it does get wiped clean in the end by some form of a bailout.
Sorry but Im not exactly overwhelmed by fellow leftist accomplishments this last year (including my worthless self). When everyone else seems to be doing fine. We spend so much damn time just talking or letting shit distract us from the bigger picture that we end up doing little to nothing while the dipshit hick groups with much more numbers, influence, etc go out and spread their fascism. Then Im forced to watch fascists hit the capitol in minecraft when thats the shit we should be doing instead of letting libs jack all our megaphones to lead up to kettling situations during the summer protests and the come back the next day and let them do it again rinse and repeat, or a bunch of libertarian teenagers on reddit doing more harm to the image of capitalism than our generation ever has.
Ive got off track and ranty so TLDR let people have their little victories even if they are vicariously. Especiailly during these times where hope of anything is hard to muster.
I think it is better if it is quarantined in a separate comm than if it is all over the place, at least you can filter it out that way if you want to.
And it really is a rather unique event, and the wsb talk will surely die down again once this has blown over.
I find it extremely weird that a chunk of the economy is on fire and potentially gooing to explode and people would not want to talk about it. These are prime radicalizing hours!
Yep, I'm instantly suspicious of any "leftists" who are saying "move along, nothing to see here."
We're not expecting this single event to turn into a revolution. Fuck off with your straw men. This is merely a radicalising moment for a lot of people who are normally not tuned into financials nor even politics. Why wouldn't we extend a hand to guide them? This is a unifying moment and it will be whatever we make of it.
We have a simping copycat wall street bets community. Nothing is wrong. Everything is fine here.
Excuse me sir. Capitalism is how we ahem, ahem "get the tendies."
I definitely wish that they wouldn't have called it "wallstreetbets". Literally anything else would be better: "finance" (good for future use), "GMEcontainment" (if you just want to throw it way after), "Marxist-capitalists" (if you want a meme/self-dunk so people remember that it isn't serious).
