Crazy how many films came out in the golden age of neoliberalism already grappling with how hollow life is under it even for the more privileged. Like immediately these things were coming out in historical terms.
I think of innuendo studios’s most recent video where he said “i think it’s worth remembering that what the Democrats promised, the neoliberal dream, did come true once, and we weren’t happy.”
Every since I started working, every single day of my life has been worse than the day before it. So that means every single day that you see me, that's on the worst day of my life.
Looks like you've been missing a lot of work lately.
Well, I wouldn't exactly say I've been missing it, Bob.
I'm going to go away for awhile. Uh, to jail.
(top 4 movie for me, easily)
I mean, objectively one of the greatest. edit; not really but you know what i mean. sorry.
I like the work I do. It's interesting and challenging enough for it to be interesting without stressing me. I like my colleagues. The office looks nice. My commute is laughably short. Even my bosses are nice people. I would have a very hard time finding a better job. — But I still hate it every day. I hate that it's a job, something I have to do and that it is built on the underlying threat of starvation.
I could go in your place. My end goal would be maybe fucking over your boss anyway I could. I think this could work but I don't know what you look like. If anyone calls me out I could just bully them into not being a nerd.
Edit realized this might be a bit and wanna say mine also might be a bit.
It's a great slightly campy movie from the late 90s about a computer programmer who becomes this kind of iconoclastic hero after something happens in his life. It's not really sophisticated but I think that it's quite powerful. Pretty cathartic to watch if you do work in an office IMO.
Directed by Mike Judge, no less. Creator of Beavis and Butthead and King of the Hill. Oh, and Idiocracy. By now the film is just a long chain of cliches, but the film is somewhat responsible for turning those things into cliches.
One of the best films I've ever seen. When I watch it it feels like I'm high
