First I was surprised he wasn't on the episode. Then I was more surprised when he didn't even send in a message. But when I think about it, did any of the hosts even mention Virgil? I'll relisten tonight, but I can't think of a single time where the hosts said... anything about Virgil. Even when Will was thanking people at the end, I don't think he said his name. Hell, I'm not even sure if a guest mentioned him.

I know he's not as involved with the show as he once was, especially since Bad Faith, but is there something I'm missing in terms of his relationship with the rest of the hosts?

Virgil accidentally said a good thing about the subreddit and Will had him removed by force

"Virgil Texas" was a sociological experiment conducted by Harvard University. We are now complete with our study. Thank you for your participation.

Every time I think about how I miss a more vocal Virgil on Chapo or Bad Faith, I feel disquieted at the prospect that there's some internal strife between the Chapos and that they'll never really admit it publicly, leaving us only to guess as to why they don't play so well with one another anymore. Then I start to think that I've developed a parasocial relationship that's probably not ideal and that I need more relationships in the meat realm.

Whatever their shit is, I hope they work it out, but no good can come from getting emotionally invested in this. Sucks that there'll never be another tabletop gaming episode though.

I mean if we want to get super tinfoil and parasocial then my guess would be after Bernie lost Virgil got into a crisis about how they didn’t do enough for the election and don’t highlight political actors on their show. Matt and Amber seem like they would be willing to have some more of that, but are ultimately ambivalent about the future through electoral processes and wouldnt help. Will and Felix are ultimately not into politicking and Will especially seems like he has some weird ideas about what the show has to be.

So Virgil left and started his own show with like the most electoral left politics person out there. It’s too bad because his interviews with candidates was like some of the best stuff they put out on the chapo name in my hopeless electoralist opinion, and probably got a lot of people pulled further left. Bad faith has that too but there’s not enough banter to really maximize his dry humor and no one who isn’t already super politics will listen to that show.

He's been in episodes lately but yeah, not sure what goes on with him He makes the show better. My personal theory is that he is the son of some Soviet premier from Kazakhstan and it's why he's keeping a low profile. Why is anonymity so important to him?The fash are after him and he doesn't want to bring attention to his name.

He did stand up before getting into politics. He hung out a lot with Nick Mullen. I think he's compartmentalizing so the controversy of being a early-to-mid 00s comic doesn't fuck up his political work.

I donno, I think some people just value anonymity. Its nice to think you can just restart from scratch if you feel like it.

The era of them all living in the same area is clearly over but its probably for the best, they seem to have been making better content lately and I wouldn't be surprised if Matt, Felix, and Virgil having new projects and Amber and Matt moving contributed to that.

But yeah, I get the weird parasocial feeling. I've gotten to a point where I've realized theyre the basketball and I'm Tom Hanks, and I'm excited to hopefully stop knowing what they do regularly in like eight months.
