Who are y'all picking as the better film. Personally I'm gonna pick killing slaveowners slightly over killing nazis.

The thing that really makes that fuckin scene is the brutal 1-second shot right after the first hit, where the Nazi goes from this steely eyed, supposed war hero guy, to blood-drenched and putting his hands up feebly, shaking around

I got a concussion when I saw Inglorious Bastards because I didn't want to leave the movie to pee, so when I did, I sprinted to the bathroom and started peeing. The blood rush from sitting for two hours to sprinting, to peeing a ton caused me to pass the fuck out on the tile floor and hit my head. Also, it was my birthday. Also, my dick ended up back in my pants when I woke up, even though I passed out while peeing.

    I haven't seen Django

I had kind of a similar experience of mysterious dick concealment when I stayed the night at a tiny ancient hotel in a dying silver mining town. Real Innsmouth in the desert vibes. I fell asleep naked and woke up in shorts. I don't sleepwalk, and never have- my guess is prude ghosts.

I think Django Unchained is probably the better film overall, and slightly fewer white nationalists seem to identify with Dicaprio than they do with Hans Landa, which is a good thing

It feels like Tarantino learned his lesson from the somewhat slow and uneven Inglorious Basterds, because Django was much better paced and generally felt cleaner while steadily ratcheting up both the tension and the catharsis.

My opinion is the opposite. I thought Django dragged at the end big time and felt like they added an extra final action bit for no real reason.

this is the worst thread i've seen on this site. it's basterds by a fucking mile. What the fuck is going on

Almost every scene in basterds is fantastic, especially the opening 30 minutes. Every once in awhile I'll look up a scene, then want to watch another then I decide to just play the whole movie because it's all that good.

Was hands down my favorite up until hateful eight and now its a tie and if anyone ever makes me choose between the two I'll either kill them or die myself.

Django is better, the pacing, the jokes, the characters, the plot are all a little tighter than Basterds. Loved the blaxploitation / sphagetti western style too // also the dyanamics between django, stephen and the other slaves was alot more interesting

cant forget that john legend song too

I just realized that at the beginning of Inglorious Basterds, when the Nazi detective yells out to the girl as she runs away, he says, with a sudden lack of subtitles:

    "Au revoir, Shoshanna!"

Absolutely chilling. Not just that he knows her name. That's not just French for goodbye. It's goodbye until we meet again.

And you never really find out if he knew her identity, do you? When he meets her again, he orders her a milk. Like he fucking knows.

As a french speaker, in all fairness there are almost no normal ways to say 'goodbye' in French that don't imply you'll see the person again. "Adieu" is closest and that's generally used for the deceased. "Au revoir" is really just French for goodbye.

I'd say Django is better because imo it has a more cohesive and satisfying ending, while Basterds kinda hits a high note then peters out a bit on that high note. Also Inglorious Basterds should have had a different title considering how little the titular squad is actually in the movie and moves the plot, it's mostly about Roshanna and her revenge

Basterds for me. I didn't like Django because Christoph Waltz's character felt out of place, like it was just an excuse to cast Christoph Waltz again.

I have a very difficult time picking which of these movies is better. My answer usually depends on which one I saw last.

I didn't want to make the post too long and post my entire feelings on tarantino, but I agree. To me jackie brown is his #1 film no contest. I consider pulp fiction his #2 btw. I picked these two mainly because of the killing nazis vs killing slaveowners thought I had this morning

I couldn't decide so I read the comments, I'll repeat @EconomicCumflation 's assertion- Django's Slave owners are a bunch of unlikeable dipshits, with even Leo being a weird kinda incestuous freak whose rants don't really make sense.

Landa is 'cultured', competent and eloquent. He does end screaming with a nazi symbol in his head, but up until then he's in control, and only 'loses' because the Basterds 'cheat'. In terms of racist nazis idolising villains, it's nice not to give them 'ammo.

Also, slightly off topic- our big blond wet boy saw Django (lol how did he last the 3 hours) and proclaimed it as racist. I didn't really engage with the conservative rhetoric around that film at the time- what are their defences to the idea that Django Unchained is racist? Just the idea we shouldn't promote killing slave owners? lol
