If anyone on here dares bring up that they have had, or are expecting, offspring, I'm going to go ham on them for daring to bring a creature into the world that can experience pain against it's will and dooming it to suffering and death.

Breeders can fuck off.

Bloodmouths: Meat tastes soooo good!

Breeders: The dopamine rush from interacting with a kinda clone of yourself feels soooo good!

        Communism no human?

I mean think about it, no exploitation, no abuse, perfect equality. Mars is a communist utopia.

Nice drop. I appreciate how he also dissects the veil of ignorance hundred years before Rawls felt very smart about using it as a concept and slams it down.

In order to establish the fundamental axiom that two people and their wills are absolutely equal to each other and that neither lords it over the other, we cannot use any couple of men at random. They must be two people who are so thoroughly free from all reality, from all national, economic, political and religious relations which are found in the world, from all sexual and personal peculiarities, that nothing is left of either of them beyond the mere concept: human being, and then they are of course “entirely equal”. They are therefore two complete phantoms conjured up by that very Herr Dühring who is everywhere scenting and denouncing “spiritistic” tendencies. These two phantoms are of course obliged to do everything which the man who conjured them into existence wants them to do, and for that very reason all their artifices are of no interest whatever to the rest of the world.

So, by extension, the most ethical act that we could do is set up a false vacuum collapse that expands outwards at the speed of light, destabilising space-time and making it impossible for anything, let alone births, to happen.

Being born is the ultimate violation of self-determination and autonomy

unless you believe in an immaterial soul, you can't have self-determination until you're born

yeah but what if the brain in a vat didn't experience constant pain and suffering? a lot of people do and i'm sympathetic to that but it's kinda absurd to assume that it's an inherent part of life

This might be my worst day on this site. I keep clicking downvote reflexively and then being disappointed realizing it doesn't do anything

anti natalism really seems to just be depression: the ideology. most people are not depressed. being born isn't being dammed to suffer any more than it is being damned to experience joy! and for most people they experience more joy in their life than suffering.

It's the "wake me up when there's full communism" meme, but for human existence. The ultimate grill pill.

and it raises the question as to why the author hasn’t killed themselves to avoid further pain?

Damn, can't believe you totally read the book in good faith and somehow didn't read the part where he addresses that exact problem. He's a deontologist, so he's categorically not a utilitarian, even. I don't think most people are actually intelligent enough to understand moral theory when they post shit like this all the time.

Comrades, please consider adopting instead of procreating. There could be some lonely kid out there missing out on the love and support of a parent/parents. You'd potentially be reducing suffering in this hellworld for generations by also encouraging them to adopt.

Parents who conceive a new organism on Earth :kombucha-disgust:

Parents who adopt a child who already exists on Earth :sankara-salute:

If you adopt a kid you are not only helping a person who would otherwise suffer in this terrible world, you also fulfil your monkee brain needs and desires. You get all the reproduction obsessed dopamine of having a child to care for, the option to mould a new being into a person you like and/or aspire to be, and the ability to govern and dictate if that's what you want.

Why create a new thing to take up space on this dying planet when there's other kids in need of care? If you're considering having a kid, please think of adopting. Adopt, don't shop.

Anti-natalism is one of my favorite forms of liberal brainworms. It's basically turning alienation into an ideology. Instead of seeing misery as a material condition, they essentialize it as a natural part of human life, and therefore advocate for the end of humanity instead of the end of capitalism. Distilled capitalist realism, lol.

Al-Ma'arri's self-composed epitaph, on his tomb, states (in regards to life and being born): "This is my father's crime against me, which I myself committed against none."
