Like i said in the title, it has everything anyone could want in a movie.

Badass lines, violence, explosions, love, intrigue, mystery, naked chicks, Casper Van Dien being handsome (with a butt shot), a coed shower scene, NPH, a Busey, Michael Ironside being badass, arena football, brain bugs, the game changing flip six three hole, and laser tag. What more could one ask for?!

It used to be my favorite movie when I was a kid, and I didn't understand that it was a biting satire of America's latent fascism.

It's rare to love a movie as a kid, and then see it again as an adult and love it for completely different reasons. I took everything about the movie totally seriously as a kid, and now I think it's hysterical.

Same here, I used to love the tits, blood and gore and alien; now I love it for the deep and twisted satirical view of Fascist propagandists getting owned by spacebugs.

Lmao, this guy thinks he watched the movie that Robert Heinlein would have made.

He watched the movie that the characters in Heinlein's book would have made.

Nah, Heinlein would have objected to the fact the clone troops weren't incestuous.

I still remember that post. It goes down as another one of those "is this a parody or are they really this stupid?" moments

Satire isn't super common in American film to the best of my knowledge, and this is such a good film for that. Excellent movie.

Verhoeven is a master of American satire. He's fantastic because he makes movies everyone wants to see and just intercuts them with "THIS IS BAD, DO NOT IDOLIZE THESE CHARATERS OR THIS WORLD" Which I love.

I'm talking specifically about the ad cutaways like "I'd buy that for a dollar!" and "would you like to know more" that kinda hammer home that you're watching a satire. But yeah, Total Recall has a lot more of the Tarantino style wish fulfillment stuff.

Starship Troopers 2 is a perfectly salvageable ripoff of The Thing.

God damn this parody is so spot on it's indistinguishable from the sincere music the US was putting out around 2001-2005. Speaking of indistinguishable from parody, YouTube recommended me an Arch Warhammer video after this, which made the joke even better.

If it had just a touch more country twang that song would be indistinguishable from any of the pro america dreck played on country radio from 2002-2007

You're really not wrong. I remember being absolutely glued to it the first time I watched it.

Aliens was better. It has badass lines, violence, explosions, love (of a different kind), intrigue, mystery, Xenomorphs, and explosive assault rifles.
