Anyone here ever take benzo for anxiety? Did it work for you and would you recommend it?

(for the record I currently take mirtazapine, which i think??? is helping me regulate my mood a bit better because at least i'm not having many days laying in bed all day consumed by thought-spirals. but i still have incredibly bad anxiety especially around texting and communication, as I've mentioned before)

I used to take Xanax. Highly addictive. Diminishing returns. Really only useful if you're having a panic attack. Not good for long term treatment.

Would not recommend. Nearly ruined my life.

      benzo stuff

Yes it worked, no I wouldn't recommend. One loprazolam is nice and relaxed, two is jelly legs, goofy uselessness. Like being drunk but better. I was like, Wow this must be fun to abuse! so I stopped.

Interesting, didn't realize it was that strong. I've never gotten either drunk (getting slightly buzzed at age 11 barely counts I think) or high. I wonder if there's any other anxiety medications...

It depends on which you take, iirc loprazolam is weak but so am I lol. People tend to recommend against benzos because dependancy and addiction can be troublesome.

Some people use SSRIs or SNRIs like Sertraline or Wellbutrin, I'm on Gabapentin rn which is in its own class for anxiety. Hoping it works well.

I’m on cipralex (lexapro), an SSRI. It helps with the anxiety and is also good for my mood(SSRI’s are most commonly used as antidepressants actually) but I also experience a lot of emotional “flattening” and sometimes insomnia. I still have a lot of social anxiety but the dose I’m at seems to be an effective compromise between being functional and dealing with the side effects

I've taken Xanax before, great if you're having bad anxiety in the moment but it's gotta be a once in a while thing. I understand if you start taking them often it actually makes anxiety worse, plus they're very addictive and easy to abuse. not a drug I could ever control myself around with ready access to. some SSRIs can help with anxiety and those can obviously be taken long term without those concerns.

I used to take Ativan as needed for panic attacks. It worked for me really well. I'd describe it as it didn't really take away whatever was making me panic, sometimes it happened for no reason and I was spiraling, but it made it so I no longer cared which was a weird feeling - but then I didn't care that it was weird. Like I was locking away the panicky part. It can also be used for sleep but it's a bit like using a bulldozer for a sand castle, overkill.

Its not a benzo (it's an SNRI) but I've also taken Effexor for OCD, which I found really useful. After a couple months, the things I obsessed over stopped mattering as much and I was able to start not checking even though I felt that same anxiety. I stopped after a little over a year and have been able to be off since with just CBT.

yes, i was prescribed xanax for a while. saved my fucking ass. would recommend, but be aware of the addictive potential. i think it's manageable, certainly didn't have a problem myself. but it's worth mentioning when recommending.

      HELL FUCKING NO

That shit is miserable. I was on it for years and gave me some horrible withdrawal symptoms when it came time to get off of it. You do as you please cause it does help with anxiety, but holy shit that stuff is miserable if you ever think of getting off of it.
