Toyosatomimi no Miko is a character in the Touhou Project series introduced in its 13th installment, Ten Desires.
Miko was once Prince Shoutoku, a Japanese leader in the 600s known for promoting Buddhism and streamlining the Japanese government. In the Touhou lore, she was visited by Taoist hermit Seiga Kaku, who had heard about Miko’s longing for immortality. Seiga introduced her to Taoism, but she rejected it as a religion unfit for placating an entire country. She was intrigued by its promise of immortality, however, and privately converted to it, advocating for Buddhism to keep Japan stable. After drinking an “immortality elixir” (mercury sulfide), however, she was forced to let go of her body and become a supernatural hermit like Seiga, notably taking on the form of a woman, making her a canonically trans character ().
After convincing a hermit from a rival clan (Mononobe no Futo) to sleep without decaying, Miko followed in suit, waiting for a time where a Taoist Japan would revive her in search of guidance. However, Buddhist monks were able to keep her mausoleum sealed, and the legends surrounding her were slowly brushed off- which led to her transportation into Gensokyo, where the folklore of old is a reality of everyday life.
When she awoke in Gensokyo, it was right after Buddhist monk Byakuren Hijiri opened her own temple, however, leading to a surge of divine spirits across the realm, setting up the events of Ten Desires.
What look like headphones on her are canonically earmuffs- Shoutoku was allegedly able to discern between ten questions asked at once, an ability carried by Miko (although with her enhanced abilities, she can also analyze each person and determine their inner desires (thus the title of the game))- although it means her hearing is highly sensitive and has to be muffled to prevent pain.

Same it's a great album
👀love health. good pick with a winged victory for the sullen too, atomos is such a gorgeous album (haven't heard the self-titled though). have you heard the performance of it at the bbc proms?
also love orc and saw 85-92. good picks all round
Yeah health are a fave for me and the debut is my favourite of the wvfts, stars of the lid are something similar to them too. I haven't heard the bbc proms performance I'll poke about and see if I can find it tho c: Yeah a fair bit of synthwave and darkwave and loud synthy stuff this week was in the mood with lots of good ambient and such inbetween the heavier stuff, I have to start doing 7x7 though I have more to put on lol I just defaulted to my usual but I'll do that next week, I'm going through a load of old music I lost when one of my 4tb storage drives died with all my music so digging through getting most of it back.
same to you, I shall be listening to a few you have linked that I haven't before c:
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=e1mHyj3lubQ here's the performance. only says nils frahm in the title for some reason but they're on there too
Oh thank you ^^ awesome, gonna run this through our 2.1 setup, shame it doesn't have surround (youtube has 5.1 and there are some surround channels)

Fucking love Boris
- the british electorate in 2019
oh god just realised there's some pretty sketchy musicians on that 20x20. winterfylleth and deströyer 666 are both pretty far right i think?
i promise those two artists don't represent me as a person. nor does kanye for that matter but that's a little bit more excusable of an inclusion
Been listening to a lot of Halestorm the past week. She's got some pipes on her
I had a thought it would be the midori album lol
i feel like it's always either that or moonlover by ghost bath. also i have a physical copy of that midori album and honestly the band photo in the liner notes is even more family unfriendly, just for different reasons lol
The one I have going up in a bit has a fair bit of tiddy in too just one of those weeks I guess, though I tend to forget and realise later oh there's a nipple in there or something lol it's a good album that midori one I have it in my listening pile this week just haven't got round to it yet.
I like your taste, lot of overlap
Been listening to a lot of Vildhjarta lately
The production on MuV and the singles they put out after it are so good, I love their guitar tone and the crazy pitch shifting stuff they do, some of their stuff is like amsr to me. So many riffs where the real time pitch shifting to be able to play it live just makes me wonder how the hell they even wrote it, and playing 7 strings where the bottom strings are tuned a minor sixth apart is so unusual
The visual art for all their releases from Rickard Deckman is gorgeous too
bmth mentioned
i love bmth! been listening to them since their second album. do you have a favourite of theirs? song or album
for me, it's sempiternal. great from start to finish, but I think also because it came out during one of the happier and more emotionally "peaceful" periods in my life. the opening track isn't even the best one yet it became the theme lol
I haven't been terribly crazy over them since that's the spirit, but their latest album has some songs I'm still playing regularly, namely youtopia, a bullet with my name on, and I've recently come around to top 10 statues. top 10 statues is interesting because it sounds like the kind of thing other metalcore bands like adtr were making back in the late 2000s when bmth was still trying to be "heavy" in a direct way, but the extra electronics/production still make it stand out.
gotta agree on sempiternal, though my favourite song is actually kingslayer from post human: survival horror. i'm a big babymetal fan so that helps
I know you didn't ask, but I saw BMTH and was like "someone listens to what I listen to!" moment (I know they're popular). Favorite album has to be Suicide Season, and my favorite song is also Suicide Season. I like the early death core/metalcore elements, and I feel like Suicide Season (the song) has such emotion to it.
i didn't ask, but i appreciate you sharing! bmth were a pretty formative band for my taste, along with bullet for my valentine, atreyu, and cancer bats (also hollywood undead lmfao but i'm far less likely to ever listen to them again). suicide season really brought me into the band, but there is a heaven... is what kept me around
Just been listening to Liniker since bubbalu showed me her music
Well, that and Farmers Market lol
cool taste. I dig the title fight album (but need to listen more times), american football, and black dresses. I've been listening to a lot of Sinéad O' Connor, I miss her.
honestly other than nothing compares 2 u i've never really listened to much sinéad o'connor. that one is so fun to belt out in the car though
that is my favourite rendition of that song, but her original stuff goes really hard too. Mandinka is one of my favourite rock songs and all of Lion and the Cobra is really good. she had such an enchanting voice.
