Why do they have to say “I’m a liberal, but…” and proceed to give their unprincipled sociopathic hot take. Like, we know!

Obama not closing gitmo was one of the early "hey wait a minute, this guy sucks" moments for me.

For sure, for like no gain too. He had a ton of political capital, he just didn't want to do it because he believes in it.

Oh, I'm sure he wanted to. He simply wasn't allowed to. The national security state runs America. If Obama didn't expose it, Trump made it crystal clear. They outright disobeyed him, and lied to him. Nobody got fired or went to prison. The elected US government doesn't control things. It's the people who are in unelected offices for 30-40 years and can outlast any president.

Brennan I think it was, blurted out top secret information on a news show. Clear-cut as a security violation as you can get. Reality Winner level stuff. Trump ordered his security clearance revoked, as would be the minimum punishment, a slap on the wrist, plus very possibly prison time. Nothing happened. His order was ignored.

Not to get too lib but closing Guantanamo would require an act of Congress, which Obama did try to get them to pass in 2009. It failed, of course, even though Dems controlled both chambers.

maybe closing gitmo could have been a bargaining chip for negotiating ending the cuban embargo.

Obama promised to close the Gitmo gulag, not the base. Theyll never close the base.

This isn't a serious question, right? It would have provided the US with the pretext for a full-scale invasion of Cuba that the US government had craved since Batista's fall. It would have been a suicidal act for the Cuban revolution.

Thank you @RNAi for continuing the liberal tradition of not providing a link and forcing me to google this tweet.

EDIT: I am a liberal and did not provide the link in my chiding post.

The answer why Cuba never took gitmo is because the previous regime sold it to the US, and taking it would have meant all out war with the US. They're stuck unless america gives it back

Doesn’t the US send monthly rent checks that have never been cashed by the Cuban government

Cuba's the landlord, US government is the tenant. The rent is some ridiculously low amount set in the 1950s, and every year the US sends them a check, and every year Cuba refuses to cash it. I think it's a 99 year lease or something. Hey, Hong Kong's lease ran out eventually.

I think Twitter name emoji libs are my favorite. They tell you pictographically what kind of brain worms they have, which means more time dunking and less time going :jesse-wtf:

I agree, Mr Liberal, that's why we need to destroy the US.
