Admittedly even though I’ve been listening to chapo since 2018-ish I only became “officially part of the community”, as in i started following the podcast every week and joined the subreddit, a few months ago when i became very politically invested upon seeing how bad the government dealt with the pandemic. as a result i’m not too familiarized with a lot of the inside jokes one of them being this collective annoyance at Amber. I’ve heard some rumours about her criticizing the subreddit and telling us all to “get a life” or something along those lines, but apart from that I don’t really know much about her outside of the chapo realm. Care to elucidate me?

She's had some bad takes, hangs out with some sus people, published in Spike!, and there were definitely some pretty edgy "jokes" about Jews on some of the live shows.

But honestly, mostly it just kinda became a bit on the sub.

Now that we've evolved past the need for the CTH podcast, no one really cares.

she spends a lot of time doing the "i've been saying this for a long time; this is just like what i told you; i'm right again; what did i say?; i'm not like you nerds, i'm punk i'm cool; i have real working class roots cuz i went to junior college" attitude and that's what i don't like about her. she's not very humble but her arrogance isn't a joke like felix's

oh yeah i’ve picked up on her being a bit stuck-up myself. not really in the podcast (although i have not watched most of the episodes) but i’ve just skim read a couple articles of hers and i can defs recognize a bit of an annoying condescending tone. i think what stood out the most was how she has this need to bring up and diss random groups of people whose mention doesn’t really aid to proving her point. like i remember she introducing a personal experience by pulling the “not like the other girls” card and ranting about how unlike other females she wasn’t an attention removed that puts her life on the internet. there are also these subtle stupid flexes like when she goes off about how full her real life is and how much unlike most of us losers she’s barely never on the internet. its definitely cringy.

listen to the recent premium episode about cancel culture or whatever. It's a stream of endless uninformed, bad faith takes from her and Matt Taibbi. Every point they hit on is dead wrong, and not in a way where it's like "oooh, does that CHALLENGE you?" like they intended it to. It comes off more as weapons grade liberalism, deliberately divorced from anything in the present day leftist discourse.

All of the hosts say stupid shit, but for me none of it even comes close to being as annoying as when Menaker

She has willingly given an interview to crypto-fash rag Spiked alongside Anna Khachiyan, and of course the first thing Anna does is make a joke about trans identity. So it goes a bit beyond just guilt by association.

Unironically yes. There's something to be said about the company you keep saying something about you. Now there probably are rare instances where people of vastly different ideologies who remain principled can manage to be in the same place at the same time but there should be some explanation for that more than "fuck you, I like these people because they share my hatred of wokeness despite the fact they do it because they want to exterminate minorities".

she's not my favorite chapo but she's not the most forgettable.

She does this thing where she has to mention midwesterners or midwesterness when it's completely irrelevant. I guess because the midwest is chronically irrelevant anyone would have to play it up.

The midwest makes most of the corn and wheat for america, how are they chronically irrelevant?

Amber is the most committed of the hosts to the whole "anti-woke" thing. I distrust the motivations of any Leftist who leans too hard into being anti-PC. Makes it seem like they're just contrarians who just want healthcare for themselves instead of people who really believe in emancipation or anti-capitalism.

Though she gets extra shit for being a woman. Felix says outrageous stuff constantly, as jokes, and nobody calls him on it.

I'd defend her from a horde of Nazis but I wouldn't be terribly surprised if I had to gulag her if that makes any sense.

that does make sense, but why would you say that she might not be a true comrade? i’ve seen her be a bit arrogant but aside from the guilt by association narrative what makes you question her political beliefs?

You should always be suspicious of class reductionists. Not that they're not communist--they are--but they are nonetheless bigots who would gladly sell any or all marginalized groups out the moment something tempting comes along. I'd gladly fight alongside her but again, once the dust settles, she's going to need to spend some time detoxing in the gulag. You get this with a lot of these Brooklynite champagne socialist types. She happily did an interview with a right wing, Koch-backed magazine just to brag about her un-PC, anti-woke left beliefs with Anna Khachiyan, going so far as to claim that middle class women are having their uteruses removed to get rid of the inconvenience of menstruation, which is a fucking baffling thing to say, but also is trying to insinuate that feminism is to blame.

Contrarian for the sake or "fun" of it from what I can tell. I don't listen to the podcast so I wouldn't know anything else
