EDIT: I keep seeing comments saying "he's not telling them to kill themself" which, to me, seems like only giving him a pass for not outright saying it. It's not like they were discussing gun suicide rates - that topic was not what the conversation was about whatsoever. The person replying, who mentioned being a gun owner in their bio, made a joke at felix, who in turn, seeing a viable topic that person cares about, starts reminding them the statistics of what they’re most likely to use their gun for, if they use it - suicide. I fail to see how that’s anything other than outright hostility.

I’m trans and say so in my bio and it’d be like if someone randomly brought up the 40% statistic in response to me making a joke about them

I've both worked and worked out in masks for almost the entirety of the last 15 months, as have plenty of people I know.

Is it worse than working out without a mask? Absolutely.

But it's not impossible and you're not mandated the right to get into a gym, so if putting a mask on for your house is all you have to do to keep going during a pandemic it's not a hard trade off.

This is beyond ridiculous. Tons of people work out with masks designed specifically to restrict air intake. A fucking piece of cloth will not suffocate anyone but the most sickly - who, it must be said, are unlikely to be going to the gym, particularly during a pandemic.

No one said it's gonna suffocate you lol it just really fucking sucks, especially if it is already hot. Like, I wear it because I have to, but I'm not exactly having fun. At some point I got light headed and had to stop and go outside to catch my breath again. Getting dizzy like that can get dangerous if it results in you falling down, especially if you have weight on. Surgical masks are a bit better than N95s but still not nice. Also it depends on what you are doing.

Getting less O2 makes your body more efficient with it or something. Think of it as training in a place with thin-air so you're faster when you're at sea level.

        • DasKarlBarx [he/him,comrade/them]
          ·

That actually doesn't work and why those oxygen deprivation masks/high altitude masks were dumb. Because once you takenitboff you recover at regular O2 levels so it's not really like training at high altitude.

Sorry I know you are trying to help but those masks (the training ones, not ones that stop the spread of covid) are a massive pet peeve of mine so I had to get that out. Lol

Yeah I'm glad they seem to be out of vogue now (let's be real, no one is going to be wearing masks anymore because they want to). If you're doing cardio with a mask on, you could just be running/whatever faster without the mask instead.

My gym has been closed since covid started, and isnt likely to open up soon. I just bought and borrowed enough stuff to have a half decent garage gym. Best thing about it is that i can play whatever i want on my tv while i work out.

I feel that. Small town i live in has lots of home gyms. During shut down I just did work trades for access to the garage gyms and we were careful with limiting contact.

Once stuff opened back up it’s just been fine working out masked up. Tbh if you’re someone who can’t outdoor cardio, then I feel some sympathy for you, but not lifting tbh.

yeah if you say "you are likely to kill yourself with your gun" and then immediately tell them to go clean their gun you are telling them to go kill themselves, behavior which was typical of the internet cutural milieu that felix came up in but which is not fuckin cool

I don't think that "trans person" and "gun owner" are quite the same type of categories. Felix definitely just picked the first thing he saw and used it to lash out though.

Which he did by bringing up suicide stats for gun owners. How do you bring up suicide as a means of lashing out that isn't implied encouragement?

Well duh, of course they aren't, but it's like you said, he's picking the first thing he see's about that persons interests/identity and finding the most vitriolic way to use it against the person. In this case it's the fact that person is a gun owner, therefore he's bringing up suicide rates. I've literally had chuds do the same thing to me, bringing up trans suicide rates out of the fucking blue in response to something I've said. Like, you don't think the gun owner is aware of gun based suicide and the likelihood that they'll never use their gun for true revolution? Of course he fucking does, so felix feeling the need to remind him is just a fucked up way of putting the dude down. Felix is just being a little bitch and using whatever he can to shit on people, down to malicious evocations of suicide. Idk how anyone can argue this is anything short of absolute piece of shit behavior.

I don't think he was urging the guy to kill himself, I think it was an attempt to knock down the idea that owning a gun is some kind of radical political statement. The reference to gun ownership increasing suicidality is directly contrasted with doing "anything of any political meaning with it". You could just as easily read this as Felix egging the guy on to commit some kind of politically-motivated killing.

Felix is wrong, guns are cool and you should own one, it doesn't matter if you'll ever get the chance to use it to shoot a fascist with it or not, and gun ownership increasing suicide rates is some lib half-correct-talking-point bullshit. Wear a mask you dumb bitch who gives a shit god damn.
