Because the ruling class will still need to distract libs and chuds from material conditions. In fact it will probably be even more important in two unsustainable nations.

"Owning slaves was cool and all, but I think an important lesson taught to us by the northern aggressor states' factory owners is that wage slavery is cheaper. Most jobs don't even justify a living wage so if you only have one job don't you deserve to starve? Under slavery you still had to feed those lazy mf'ers. But as I was saying, if only they had enshrined the Right to Work in the coastal states and busted their unions like we have in the south, they might still have factories in their failed states and we'd still be one nation!"

Meanwhile the democrats will name their country The Civil States of America. Once they discover that the abbreviation CSA has a troubled history they can't change it as the parliamentarian rules that it would be divisive and against the sacred norms and institutions to change anything for the better.

But for real we should just do the 10 nation deal for like 2 years just to see how much Red areas collapse into 5000 tribal city states

Since the 17th century, America has been "balkanized" and locked in an existential crisis between 2 competing strains of British Capitalists - the Puritans and the Cavaliers. We trot out this split idea every few years, and it never goes anywhere because both groups would rather bicker and be a global power together than split up and become irrelevant.

Either side would make a move to retake the resources that were previously available to them in a single union. It just depends who the money runs our for first, so probably the red states but maybe the libs would want to retake the Texas oil or something.

Would it? I feel like only Red State governors would be dumb enough to try it, lib blue state residents would be happy to be rid of republicans, and federal politicians would be counting a windfall of undistributed pork and welfare checks.

think about the economics of such a decision. If the USA literally split into two nations, Dem and republican, it would wreck havoc on the economies of country comparable only to the collapse of the USSR. These red states are already all broke except for like Texas and Florida, and soon they will be eyeing the resources that was left on the Democratic side of the new border. It is not like it would be politically infeasible to conquer and rule over more Americans even if they were libs, it's not like conquering a distant nation with people who don't even speak English. Why have half the country when you could have all of it? The country cannot be divided like that, it would become all of one thing or all of another.

And of the two groups being discussed here, we know that one side has more guns and a greater willingness to use them. So, this seems like a settled question; it's just a matter of if they get motivated to act and what specifically motivates them.

well I wouldn't be so quick to discount the liberals in this fantasy timeline. The libs do have the advantage in industry and technology and can draft more soldiers. It'd be like lib technocratic warfare vs chud holy warfare (fighting in the name of the Great Founding Fathers)

The dems and Republicans aren’t separate parties as much as they are conjoined twins.

As has been said before, "the United States is also a one-party state but, with typical American extravagance, they have two of them."

I guess you are right and it is ridiculous to hope that there are points of discontent where you can fracture the parties. It's impossible to find such a point because they aren't even two different parties, but one big party united against the people. But how do you convince the American people that Marjorie Taylor Greene and Nancy Pelosi are both batting for the same party?

I'm not at all interested in the logistics of it because it would never work. I just wonder what it would be like if we woke up tomorrow and the nation was already split in two and our populations were sorted and redistributed according to political belief. Thus, dems would get all the gun control they want, republicans would have all the abortion restrictions they wished for, and then... what exactly? What policies would be fracture lines in the new nations politics? (Also, where would leftists go since we'd be unwelcome everywhere?)

i feel like redistributing every American according to political belief would fracture into like millions of different nations because having a coherently structured political ideology is pretty rare

I'd just say democrats would wake up in blue states and republicans would wake up in red states and be done with it. The point of the thought experiment is to find the fracture points that currently exist within the two parties. What would be the new wedge issues that we could exploit a wedge strategy on?

I don't care about what unites republicans to each other against democrats. Nor what unites democrats against republicans. I want to know how to break the spine of each team. Because they'll have to reform into separate parties once again in their new "ideal" states.
