She talks about this a lot on the indigenous people panels she does. Apparentely the most vitriolic shit she gets comes from white western leftist men and there's a lot of it.

Can recommend those panels too, very cool discussions. Hope they bring back the Luna & Hakim Show too :deeper-sadness:

If you're an American and you have anything to say about a Socialist country in the Global South, you have the option of writing it down and shoving it up your worthless ass.

The thing is always "independent unions" and they totally ignore state unions. That's like discounting the postal workers union in America.

The reason they want "independent unions" is the same reason they want a "free press" and for the same end goals. It allows them to utilise the power of capital to gain a footing for counter-revolution and restoring the bourgeoisie as ruling class. In this phrase "independent" and "free" are interchangeable.

Yup. Same reason Chomsky thinks Lenin was evil and destroyed the Soviets. They want labor aristocracy cause they can have comfort within that system as public intellectuals, etc

Funny thing is that Chomsky whines about the soviets being the true and only socialist form of organization and political power and expression of popular will and evil Lenin took power away from them post revolution, and then goes on to call the October revolution an undemocratic opportunistic coup by Lenin...while the Bolsheviks had democratic majority in the Soviets at the time and Lenin and his line enjoyed popular workers support in them

Eh, that’s unfair, german workers like spd. Now, is that an inherently a good thing, considering german inter-european extractive dynamics? Maybe not, but explainable.

Eh, that’s unfair, german workers like spd.

If they aren't class conscious workers yet. I also think "like" is a bit strong for what people feel towards the SPD, usually it's more like "hate them less than the CDU".

yeah aren't the SPD like the Dems of Germany, don't people call them the "trash partei SPD" because everyone is aware they suck ass. Isn't that why the greens are replacing them as the main opposition to CDU?

            • AcidSmiley [she/her]

"Dems of Germany" is very fitting when it comes to the amount of defeatism, being ineffectual and wanting to work across the aisle. ofc it's still Europe, even the SPD is notably to the left of the US Democrats on a lot of stuff. While at the same time being slightly to the right of the Dems on some culture war issues. The differences between liberals and socdems are very marginal, but they're there.

It looked as if the Greens where replacing the SPD for quite a while, and that has already happened among zoomers, but a lot of older voters can't get rid of their sexist, racist, carnist and car culture brainworms, making the Greens too "radical" and "woke" for them. It's that part of reactionary boomer socdems that makes up the core electorate of the SPD.

Eh, germany is like labor aristocracy made flesh in industrial working population, who are very unionized. the other workers get shit on, true.

But unions for auto industry simp for spd, if I remember correctly

            • AcidSmiley [she/her]
              ·

This holds true for unionized workers, but Germany also has a fairly large share of workers who barely make minimum wage, or who make slightly more while being heavily exploited and overworked, especially in the large logistics sector (Germany is a major transport hub in Europe), in the food industry, in service work, in health care etc. There's very tangible material differences between these parts of the working class, very little class consciousness and a lot of "fuck you, i got mine" attitude.

ofc, a lot of the workers bearing the most precarious conditions aren't even allowed to vote in the first place because they're immigrants and getting citizenship takes at least 8 years of living here if people even bother to go through that whole process in the first place.

No. This is a ridiculous stretch. By the same logic you could say the soviets invaded vietnam because they were allied to the french when they did this in 45. But standpoint epistemology is stupid anyways.

Own him for being uninformed and chauvinistic, or that present day germany bans political strikes or how his succdems try to gut the rights of smaller more independent unions and htat he should care about that

Except the soviets didn't support France's invasion nor did it profit from it, and it actively helped Vietnam against France thereafter. the FDR profited from and assisted NATO invading Vietnam and sure as hell didn't help them liberate themselves. Like Cynicalist said, all of NATO is complicit

Of course vietnam isnt cuba. Their system and historical progression is closer to Chinese reform and oppening up and Dengism. Being a huge trade partner to the US comes from that and the other part comes from them trying to occupy and Yugoslavia like geopolitical role and "not taking sides" position
