I thought there would be some revolutionary spirit in the professor or some of the other characters. It's hinted at all of the time. His motivation remains a mystery until the final episode. He's no revolutionary, he's just a thief. "It runs in the family".
They have the state by the balls and what do they do? Nothing. They keep the gold and fake their death but no one knows (it's kept a state secret), so the status quo persists. Except they are alienated billionaires now, so a "happy ending". Money, a new identity, a new life in some exotic tropical country where they can "live like kings" and party.

When I first heard it my initial thought was like....yeah, what else is the point of a heist? Nobody is planning elaborate heists of the break-room fridge.

The show sucks. The misuse of bella ciao was incredibly grating and ruined it for me
