The British Foreign Secretary told the head of the Russian Foreign Ministry about the need to withdraw Russian armed forces from the Ukrainian border. Sergei Lavrov replied that the military is on the territory of his country. Liz Truss repeated that they should be withdrawn. To this, the Russian minister again objected that the military did not violate anything, since they had the right to conduct any maneuvers on the territory of the Russian Federation.

After that, he himself addressed a question to his British colleague: “Do you recognize the sovereignty of Russia over the Rostov and Voronezh regions?”

“Great Britain will never recognize Russian sovereignty over these regions,” the Foreign Minister replied after a short pause.

British Ambassador to the Russian Federation Deborah Bonnert had to intervene in the situation, who delicately explained to Mrs. Truss that we were really talking about Russian regions.

My least favorite thing about the PMC is that they're not even good at their jobs. Nice cushy salary instead of shitty wage like the rest of us because they're "paid for their mind" but their mind sucks.

Also for career politicians it's about winning "points," not really about long term strategy on behalf of their countries (that's gonna be someone else's problem by the time they're done). So in some sense Truss's behavior makes sense. It's not what a proper diplomat should do or say (she also rode a tank in Estonia lol, as a kind of pale shadow of Thatcher's move), but her "hardline" stance will definitely do her career good.

there's also the fact that only delusional idiots with the delusional self confidence of Cnut trying to turn back the tides put themselves up for election so they are the recruiting pool for government ministers

This is what's maddening to me, and the fact that there is no shame in it. If my ass got exposed like this on an international stage I'd retreat from public life.

I'm not the smartest person, but when I'm in a situation where I know I have to answer questions in front of people or present something I've generally spent hours pouring over the subject to be able to answer most questions thrown my way. She's the Foreign Secretary and can't be bothered to learn about the territory she's arguing about.

This isn't the pmc though really this is unquestionably a capitalist. Like the pmc may be how she made her way, but if she isn't worth hundreds of millions at this point...

If you are living on the returns of your investments and not your labor you are a capitalist. So yes at a certain point increasing quantity changes the quality of a thing.

I was browsing r/socialistRA the other day and there was a thread about the Ukraine situation. The general consensus seemed to be for US intervention if Russia invaded Ukraine because, in their view, a US occupation of Ukraine would be better for the workers of Ukraine than a Russian occupation.

Even ignoring what a poorly constructed take that is, you can’t help a people who are dead by nuclear holocaust. The only sane take is one of non intervention. The US/NATO has no place playing at world policing.

Any Russian ‘invasion’ would be backing up the separatist forces in LPR and DPR. It wouldn’t be extending to all of Eastern Ukraine.

The (majority ethnic Russian) populations there are better off with Russia than a neo-nazi backed Ukraine.

Actually think Boris would have been able to handle this better. Liz Truss is just a robotic person desperately trying to perform as Thatcher while not knowing what the fuck she is doing and with zero charisma.

I'd say Liz Truss was in the running for the dumbest Tory, but then I remembered Matt Hancock. I have no idea how they're so terrible at finding competent seeming leaders, Cameron is also a dingus but at least he was able to keep up appearances a bit.

The British are functionally irrelevant wrt global foreign policy. You could resurrect Margaret Thatcher and the best she'd be able to do with modern England is shake her fist at the Falklands.

I've heard parenti's lecture on Empires, and I remember him saying that bougeoise historians often said Empires accidentally become empires, citing that one of the major historians writing on the British Empire said "Britain one day found themselves accidentally controlling an empire" The rest of the lecture's great, saying that's a load of bullshit. But reading this shit sometimes makes me wonder if the brits actually fumbled and failed themselves onto the world stage in the same way billionare failkids fail upwards.

No, what you're looking at here is a failkid. Imperial Britain was ruthless and clever (and awful, obviously), and after the 1st World War it went on a downward spiral of failchildren, to the point where fucking Liz Truss is a cabinet minister. British politics is nothing but failkids, by virtue of them being British politicians.

I have heard of this and was shocked by how common this form of execution took place. This was a BEF (Br*tish Expeditionary Force) standard procedure. Even within their own ranks. This was just an alternative to hanging, firing squad, etc.

I say all that because I’ve researched alternatives to the guillotine. In so far as the spectacle of it all. I mean… the axe and chopping block has been around for awhile… The stage and central focal point of such a large machine. And the raising of the head to the crowd - blood and gore for all to cheer. The crowd becomes one, for a brief moment. To shovel verbal derision on to, but also a recognition of the thought “thank allah that’s not me, lol. Sucks to be them.” While in the past it was like this… Today it’d just be a fun l’il addition, no need to feel the creeping terror of the days of yore.

Oh, we should do this in addition to the Central Park Love Festival. That’s it. That’s the post.
