I think a lot of people on this website buy into this idea that what Putin is doing is imperialism

Look it is essentially imperialism my argument is that calling it what it is gives a propaganda victory to NATO and justifies Ukrainian fascism

Damn then we better intentionally do bad analysis so that the western media doesn't use fringe leftist websites as a basis for their propaganda

No one gives a shit what leftists think, our strength should be in correct and consistent position, thus making us more frequently right, instead of reacting to what libs think.

Russia attack bad, thus israel is also bad is trivial argument to make, it’s not like shielding russia actions will make you look sane to average person

I'm not going to lie and pretend Russia is just and anti-imperialist just because it might make NATO look better. You can't just lie your way through every complicated situation, treat everyone you're speaking to as if they're too dumb to really understand, and then expect that people will trust you and see you as someone to look to when they're trying to figure shit out.

I'm torn on the whole thing, on the one hand Russia should be driving out NATO from Ukraine, taking care of neo-nazis, and defending those breakaway republics and ethnic Russians from Ukrainian aggression. On the other hand, part of me feels like this is a war of opportunity for Putin to grab up land and extend influence at the cost of starting a war. The only constant I know for certain is that average working class people in both Ukraine and Russia are totally fucked. The sanctions the west is dropping on Russia might as well be a nuclear bomb in terms of their impact.

There’s no victory for the Ukrainian people here. Either way their nation will become debt slaves to a foreign power that cares nothing for their liberation and their rights

I mean, it is. I'm firmly in the (highly)critical support to Russia side but fighting over a smaller sovereign country because of geopolitical calculation is imperialism. People love to rag on India for being 'imperialist', when the only reason they've had claim to Kashmiri territory is due to British partition since their independence. If that's imperialism, which it probably is, then what Russia is doing is imperialism. Imperialism doesn't mean: country you don't like doing something is imperialist.

Russia is moving in to protect Russian ethnic boundaries and to create a buffer state against the global West. If you want to be particular, what they are doing is imperialism, but a multi polar world is necessary for communist movements to thrive

This article is about the other part of the Western Left. Those who imagined ‘NATO aggression in Ukraine’, and who could not see Russian aggression – like the New Orleans chapter of the Democratic Socialists of America (DSA).

Or the DSA International Committee, which published a shameful statement failing to say a single critical word against Russia (I am very thankful to US professor and activist Dan la Botz and the others for their critique of this statement).

Or those who criticised Ukraine for not implementing the Minsk Agreements and kept silent about their violations by Russia and the so-called ‘People’s Republics’.

Or those who exaggerated the influence of the far-Right in Ukraine, but did not notice the far-Right in the ‘People’s Republics’ and avoided criticising Putin’s conservative, nationalist and authoritarian policy. Part of the responsibility for what is happening rests with you.

Pure worthless both sideism piece of shit article, no thanks. Ukraine government suffers a coup, violates Minks agreement, is taken hostage by nazis that then spend 8 years shelling innocent civilians.

"OH BUT PUTIN IS A CONSERVATIVE RIGHT WINGER THIS OBVIOUSLY MAKE BOTH THINGS EXACTLY THE SAME!"

Also what is this left that doesn't even recognize that Putin is a right wing conservative? The rest of the article is irrelevant when the writer makes literal strawmen arguments. Nobody believes Putin is a socialist or even a leftist. Those that do are not worth listening to because it is the same level of drivel as western media claiming Putin wants to remake the USSR.

If this person was writing about Iraq or Iran they would try to smash into your head that a dictator and a medieval theocracy isn't good enough to justify your support, I mean why are you not criticizing Iran's theocracy right now huh?!

Can't even imagine what their China rhetoric is going to look like.

What communist party does that person claim to represent?

Edit: I've done investigating on the writer and his background. He's associated with the anti-communist ultra-Left. He speaks for no communist party, and for no communist movement.

Claiming he's a part of the "Ukranian communist movement" is spreading false information, therefore until this comment is edited to correctly state "a socialist journalist in Kiev has wrote against the Russian invasion and is critiquing the Western left for not taking a harsher stance against Russia's invasion" this comment shall be removed.

Feel free to message me or reply to this comment when the mistake is rectified.

Putin is doing neo-colonialism if we want to be pedantic about it. Now if he annexes the entire Ukrainian coastline, that’s another story
