My childhood friend was a black Russian and he was the coolest mfer I knew. Literally introduced me to the concept of socialism.
Literally one of the first things to make me go "you know, this socialism/communism thing doesn't sound that bad" in my childhood was learning how black Americans were choosing to visit the USSR for educational/career opportunities and even settling there since the early 30s. This while I was also being taught about the Jim Crow terror regime that the "Land of the Free" permitted.
