The greatest lie ever told is that the word as it exists is at an equilibrium, that history has ended and the status quo is this unshakeable monument.

The reality is that this order they've erected is a house of cards, a paper tiger, a magic trick that serves as nothing more than a stop sign in the face of the inevitable march of history.

Earlier this month, “Sorry to Bother You” director Boots Riley tweeted, “Art for arts [sic] sake is never for arts [sic] sake-it’s for the sake of the status quo. This is why the CIA funded Jackson Pollack [sic].” Set aside the vaguely totalitarian suggestion that art must, by its nature, exist either in support of or opposition to the political establishment.

Sic sic sic sic yeah we know it's a quoted tweet you condescending prick.

Also, how is it "totalitarian" to point out that art has a political component? I hate WaPo so much.

WaPo using words like "totalitarian" and "authoritarian" to describe random things like I would use seasoning in my cooking to emotionally spice up their article

Maybe we should start doing that...look how authoritarian it is that my surplus value is stolen

I don't know, even conservatives are beginning to wonder why they have to suffer when the economy chokes while the guys running the company don't seem to be affected at all.

Of course their answer seems to be national socialism.

It never stopped the anticommunist shit. Communism and socialism are becoming more popular because, to put it in terms even a journalist can understand, people's standard of living is decreasing and their lives are getting worse so they don't see why they should support the status quo if it doesn't work for them. Interest in the far right is growing too, though of course the Washington Post is behind giving them surface to air missiles and small arms.

also it keeps being used as a put down for popular things which obviously is going to create positive associations. The good aspect of just want healthcare libs who identify as socialists is that there are a lot of them and they make the word less scary

I find it to be a poor excuse tbh Isn't Charlottesville a college town where not even a fart goes by without the University making a decision on it? They literally just let a Nazi rally happen on account of them willing to allow 'discourse' and free speech.

The only part of the rally that took place on campus grounds was the tiki torch march, which to my knowledge only happened there because it wasn't announced and secretly planned. The permit given for the main rally which took place in the park where the Robert E. Lee statue was removed and another park after was given by the city council, who also conspicuously choose to not ban weapons at it despite recommendation by the VA secretary of public safety. The university to their credit had everyone stay away from campus nearby. Disclosure that this is what I was told from family who lives there.

The best part is that this chucklefuck ignores that at the same time the CIA was fighting a "cultural war" it was fighting a clandestine war.

Remembering the culture war stuff without the other stuff being brought up is a subtle disavowal of the CIA's bullshit at the time and part of the narrative that drives "yeah we did bad stuff back then, we don't do it anymore"

Are they talking about Operation Gladio? Or the various assassinations they conducted, around the world, and which are still ongoing? Perhaps their manipulation of the news media (Mockingbird)? Or the lying to Congress whenever they open their mouths?

Even Truman, who authorized the creation of the CIA, later regretted it.

There should be a wiki page for Crimes of the CIA. CIA is (de jure) legally a "continuing criminal enterprise" just for the drug trafficking alone. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Continuing_Criminal_Enterprise_Statute
