Could it be that these kids are literally being followed by adults with cameras on them at all times? Could it be that they're walking through cities where people don't drive ford f15,000s 30 mph over the speed limit?

No, it must be because japan is "homogenized" and makes pedo porn

This is the same Japan that has separate train cars for women because sexual assault was so rampant?

Because Chuds who have a hard on for Japan are the worst. "Muh homogenous ethnostate" and "muh loli porn" are such common traits for white dudes in Japan that it's basically a cliche.

thanks at obvious red pills for the stunning assertion that social homogeneity prevents child abuse. like, it would be absurd for a child to be abused by their own parents, since they're literally flesh and blood. obviously.

lets compare to Australia, U.K., Canada and America

Well, if we're going to equate correlation to causation then one might point out that those dangerous countries you mentioned are run by and are majority white people ... Curious :think-about-it:

Also, it might be Japan, you know, pretending it's safer than it really is. It's not like they like to talk about taboo things.

Nah, when I lived there it was very common to see young children on trains, busses, and walking by themselves with zero adult supervision. It is just socially acceptable for kids to be off doing their own thing at a very young age.

Also, not to go off at you personally but I think there's something vaguely orientalist in the idea that Japan (or any other Asian country) does things to save face or whatever. Like we don't look at dumb American high school sitcoms and talk about how Americans are sweeping school shootings under the rug because they're saving face.

This was common in the US, too, up until maybe twenty or thirty years ago. From what I understand the massive decrease in the independence of children is strongly associated with the expansion of cable news; People saw more crimes happening on TV and it lowered their perception of safety. There's probably also a bunch of economic factors, too.

When I was a kid, my mom would kick me out of the house all day long. I was allowed to come back for lunch, but probably a friend's mom would make lunch for us all. I was allowed back home when the street lights came on.

Today? That's child abuse and leaving children unsupervised would get you a jail sentence. Hell, I used to walk to school. Alone. And back again in the afternoon. This is within living memory.

In most of the US it's probably safer for kids to walk to and from school on their own now than it was in the eighties, but gen X was basically mentally scarred by the "where are your children now?" shit and the cultural will to go back hasn't materialized (I have read about parents who let their kids ride the bus getting CPS calls).

I can, but I didn't in the first place because content warnings usually come with a description of what is inside the content warning but in this case said description would just be more or less what's in there, mentioning the existence of that stuff. Now it's just an undescribed CW that people roll the dice with, or don't.

It’s dumb babies doing things on their own, why cant people keep it wholesome instead of diving into why a highly visible camera crew following a baby walking to the store in a very walkable town infrastructure is safer than other countries because of weird racism.

Like they take it that this is a normal thing instead of a outlier of common parental practice

Tasking your 4 year old to buy anything more complicated than a treat for themselves is neglectful parenting, full stop.

When I would stay in france with french relatives I have vivid memories as a 5 to 8 year old child of being sent to the bakery in Paris. They would give me a list and I would hand it over, that may be the case for these kids too.

Or maybe appropriate parenting depends on material and social conditions so a one-size-fits-all approach doesn't make sense.

Also, a 4 year old probably isn't going to pick out the best apples in the bunch but if you're trying to maximize your apples per yen you're probably not sending your kids out to do shit.

That's how Vic Morrow and those two kids were killed on the set of Twilight Zone: The Movie. Working at 10pm at night with no supervision. Heck, Heather O'Rourke, that platinum blonde little girl who was the star of 'Poltergeist' died of a bizarre intestinal infection with no history of bowel problems. She was routinely left alone on the set all day with Hollywood adults who we know today sexually abused children like Corey Feldman.

There usually legally needs to be a parent or guardian that the parent has signed those responsibilities to on set in the first place
