honestly earth sucks too much to worry about the things that get the happy neurotransmitters going in your brain. Like maybe don't support awful people or buy into terrible ideologies, but no one's gonna know if you torrent and watch a harvey weinstein film or the west wing or something.

Sorry, the only acceptable form of entertainment is reading theory while munching on a locally harvested bowl of dry leaves and tap water

Rick and Morty was fine, but I wanted it to be as smart as Futurama...it wasn't, and that really let me down.

This doesn’t make it „smarter“, it’s a different creative direction. Rick & Morty has some genuinely good emotional moments where it sincerely shows how Rick‘s lifestyle affects himself and those around him, it’s what sets it apart from many other shitty adult cartoon comedies.

The show does actually unironically have a message, although it gets muddled a bit.

And then he digs up the corpses like 2 seasons later to prove dimensional travel, the show definitely does some fun stuff

It has its moments, but I think overall Futurama is a much more clever show.

Yeah I've really been looking into doing something similar. I have a decent sized collection of blu rays already. What is the $5 a month for?

Not OP but I've had a pretty good experience with Plex, which afaik is the most popular self-hosted media server software. Based on the $5/mo I'm guessing they use the premium version of Plex

I like watching Top Gear / Grand Tour, despite Clarkson being a massive chud and awful person (and Hammond and May I think are alright people but I'd be shocked if they weren't mostly reactionary too). Although I think 2 of their last episodes pushed me over the edge - the one mocking Stalin when they were in Georgia and the other when Clarkson was wearing a Che shirt and they had a movie in the middle of the show praising Americans in the Vietnam War. I'll enjoy past episodes but fuck Clarkson.

hating clarkson is like 75% of the show.

and i absolutely love their international tour episodes; used to watch og (not actually og) top gear with ep rips from gen[m]ay in like 2005

I credit watching the West Wing heavily with my radicalization in late HS lol. The episode where they just give up compromise the SCOTUS seat rang especially true since I watched it like a few years before the whole Obama/Garland bs.

wild, critical support for the west wing? I've never actually seen it but I have had to explain to my grown-ass coworkers that it's a tv show and not how politics actually work

Alfonso Cuaron directed the third Harry Potter movie that's why it's the best. It's also one of the best books imo

yeah, exactly. personally, I'm a sucker for 4 and 6, but 3 is easily the best in the first half

yeah, my hot takes are 5 sucks because the best character bites it and because its all about him turning into a cop, and 1-2 are just alright worldbuilding with weird stakes. 8 is alright, just feels underwhelming. also I like snape, his redemption arc worked on me even if it is weird if you think too much

I learned this when I felt like I was the only person to like The Last Jedi. I have a very high tolerance for media that is heavily criticized and / or lib ideology.

I just looked it up and the top result was national socialist black metal. So don't listen to nazi music even if you like it.
