the anonymity of the internet and the proliferation of the "hot take economy"? i see shit like this all over twitter and even here too, it's not just a liberal thing lol.

like it's a little embarrassing to be called out or corrected in person, but you can say whatever you want on the internet and no one's going to remember you're the one who doesn't know the difference between Uyghurs and Uruguayans, or how you spouted off some dumbass take without reading the article/knowing the context. and if you're somewhat famous your followers will just make excuses or ignore it. people don't get that it's ok to just not say anything sometimes

Libs are constantly jockeying to be on the right side of history so they won't apply a critical lens to the information they absorb if it's morally shocking. In this case even reading one of the articles or learning to pronounce 'Uyghur' is tantamount to being a tankie genocide denier. Just internalize and move on!

Internet socialization is mostly about repeating and internalizing what people in your in-group say and crapping on what anyone outside of it say. Learning and humility are secondary at best.

If China is doing genocide against the Uyghurs, they’re doing a pretty shit job at genocide considering the Uyghurs are the second fastest growing ethnic group in all of China.

The chauvinism of :reddit-logo: is insufferable and makes even most of “left” reddit unusable. I saw someone call Lenin an opportunist and claim queer rights were “bourgeoisie decadence” in a single comment.

In contrast, Hexbear banning for chauvinism, sectarianism, and bigotry has made this site one of the only functional leftist spaces on the western internet. “Free speech” spaces are an idealist grift that only benefit entrenched power.

The rhetoric and ideas of oppressors, colonizers, and imperialists should be censored.

Yeah they have a post about "countries that got away with ethnic genocide" on the front page right now, as if China is getting away with its treatment of Uyghur Muslims, which isn't even genocidal in any way, on the same level that the US got away with indigenous genocide or France and the UK with gestures wildly. So probably it's 196.

I dated a girl who was in a near fatal car crash that left her with an assortment of surgical scars and her father had been very adamant that because she was an organ donor that they had almost let her die to harvest her young undamaged insides. It has occurred to me that a society where an assortment of vehicle related deaths are considered the norm is a great boon for people waiting for a new kidney or lung.

The organ farming accusations are Falun Gong canard, likewise most of the claims about Xinjiang literally stem from Al Qaeda agitprop. There was an al qaeda propaganda video on youtube uploaded in 2014 with all of Zenz's 2019 claims in it but it seems to be gone now.

The West specifically fought to exclude cultural genocide from all formal definitions of genocide when the international laws were being drawn up. It's outright hypocritical for them to pivot to this argument now, especially while providing zero evidence.

A recent article about cultural genocide in Tibet even used a photo of a school that was using both Chinese and Tibetan script in its teaching materials: https://www.nationalreview.com/corner/china-committing-cultural-genocide-against-tibetan-children/
