Local manchild is afraid of not looking cool in front of rise and grind bro coworkers. Makes his wife feel uncool in the process. Asks Redditors for reassurance.

Local manchild torpedoes his relationship so he can be a cowboy. More at 10.
The sad thing it's he's probably not even nuking his relationship for something romantic and adventurous like being a cowboy. Instead, he's probably some bullshit regional manager or marking guru or some other pointless industry
“Yeehaw pardner, looks to me like yer sales are down ten points. ‘Fraid yer gonna have to pack yer bags and head out the door into the settin sun”
Would the most cowboy-appropriate response be to shoot him in the face?
How the fuck do people mess up this badly? Surely him talking to his fiancee shoulda gone like 'Hey, so I have an award ceremony coming up. My co workers are massive bellends who somehow think it's not manly if you come too and somehow they also think they are cowboys. I'd personally love to have you there, but I'd understand if you didn't wanna come along cos of all that crap.'
You really shouldn't be putting on a front for someone you are planning to spend your life with cos that is just amazingly emotionally unhealthy for both of you but somehow he's gone one worse and has put on a front for someone else for his fiancee?
Some of the shit I read on AITA and /r/Relationship advice cause serious damage to my faith in humanity. Not just that people are so brutally unkind, but also that people get to the point of these really, really serious problems without running for the exit. A lot of the time it feels like the victim was just never told that they can stand up for themselves and that they deserve respect and consideration.
That’s what happens when parents are working 120 hours and not talking to their kids. I swear, I grew up in a “middle class” neighborhood and most of the kids I grew up are like this.
and then the cherry on top is running to reddit dot com for advice on how to sort it all out

He should've just not tell the fiance about the award ceremony instead of going, "Sorry, you can't come because no girls allowed" lmao.
I dunno not telling her seems pretty deceptive. I'd be kinda upset if my wife was invited to an award ceremony but didn't tell me cos she had been pressured into not inviting me. It'd feel like she thought I couldn't handle knowing about it which at best would seem patronising.
I wasn't clear in my comment. He obviously should bring his fiance to the award ceremony because if nothing else, he's not going to stay in that company for more than a decade, especially with the recession that's happening. while a marriage is a potential lifetime relationship. Not only was he convinced by some coworker like a dumbass, but he also did it in the least socially competent way possible.
But I suppose this is to be expected from your average Redditor.
Ah right yeah that makes more sense! Yeah sometimes I think stuff like this is made up but I dunno I have met ppl like this.
how much you wanna bet this guy's industry is like supplemental insurance sales.
"You killed it this quarter, Gary." "Those leads I got from the shady nursing home association were key."
idk about you but if your SO were to ride along with you after you beat the bad guy, it would probably be a bit boss :shrug-outta-hecks:
"Uhh sorry honey, I don't think it's a good idea for me to bring you to the ceremony. I asked Bob about it and he was all like 'Cowboys!' and... Well actually I didn't really get his point, but I still don't think you should come."
When is it ever an L to have a girl in cowboy movies? Get the bad guy and the girl...? Dumb analogy but I don't even understand it.
Idk maybe it's like ben hur and the writers were gay guys trying to make straight actors accidentally indicate they were gay
I'll also recommend The 300 Spartans, which is the movie 300 (comic and movie) was based on and is somehow even more gay.
This Sheraton Conference room ain't big enough for the 214 of us *fires five shots at chandelier
And end it with shooting off revolvers like Yosemite Sam :brace-cowboy:
Shooting blank-firing colts in to the air is a great way to punctuate any public performance.
What about shooting live rounds at the ground so you float around a bit?
the opinion is apparently pretty popular
LMAO
I'm guessing this is some super chuddy industry full of man-cave dwellers that are emasculated by the mere presence of females. Most likely the acceptance speeches will contain a sizable helping of misogyny jokes. This dude wants to be part of the bros circle jerk more than he wants to respect his partner. Such cowboy manliness gonna be pissed and feel justified about it when the partner gets fed up with this BS.
He's an engineer and works at a pretty progressive company because about 15% of the employees are women.
It's probably more that it's "a strip club and boys being dogs " kind of trip. I doubt they care if his wife hears naughty jokes, it's more that they don't want "tattling" or have it be like that scene in King of the Hill where Buck's wife walks in the middle of Hank's award speech and sees Buck with his mistress.
:kitty-cri-texas: Yeehaw pardner, gettin the girl in the end is actually not very macho manly of you.
what the fuck are these people :data-laughing:
Well, let's put it like this, she's married to a redditor :kombucha-disgust:
Are you telling me shooting indigenous people is not 'catching the bad guys'?
Random, but your post reminded me of this interview Chomsky did in 2019 where he talks about this manufactured idea of the cowboy as a means to create a gun market after the civil war. It's found here, specifically his answer to question #2 on guns.

they were also largely mexicans and ate beans rather than meat due to being poor as hell. they were unionised too also not hyper individualistic as it takes a number of people to herd cattle
I know most AITAs are fake but I think this one is real just because that cowboy shit is something so many boomer hogs would sincerely believe
you can feel the weakness of this guy's psyche
I don't know that I completely agree with him but the way he explained it sounded pretty cool to me, plus the opinion is apparently pretty popular so I don't want others to think less of me for doing it.
his fiance should just bully him, he'll probably break down and beg for forgiveness with just a little pressure
reading his words comunicates the weakness of his positions like how you can tell from touch the fragility of an egg
