Yeah I’d believe it. The fucker refuses to give warranties for $300 backpacks and literally says “trust me bro”. I’m a good guy. If I give warranties then what happens if I die and there’s something wrong with the backpack and then my wife and kids will be in trouble and I don’t want that. Then makes T-shirts making fun of people asking for warranties. Fucking asshole capitalist pig.

Every time how he runs LTT comes up on the WAN show he just falls back to some variation of the "I'm a benevolent boss so my workers will never need any of these safeguards" and Luke just sits there hemming and hawing. Weird guy who is both publicly pro-union but would also be offended if his own employees unionised :linus:

The "trust me bro" guarantee is a lifetime warranty on the backpack. This happened after people were upset the backpack wasn't initially listed with a warranty and a similar but smaller tech review channel (Gamers Nexus) has had warranties on their merch for a few years now

Can we have a no celeb/e-celeb drama post rule unless all the information is available or at least the OP explains everything? We don't need this spectacle bullshit. Because of how vague this post is I decided to look into it and Linus showed evidence he didn't ghost Naomi or insinuate that meeting in person was required for a job, he acknowledged he did not make himself clear and how difficult things are for women in these situations, and he invited his wife into the conversation as well. So maybe there's more to it, maybe there isn't, either way put some more effort in before making these kinds of posts or just don't post it. Clickbait celeb drama is literally everywhere else already

This is what I mean by why I hate these posts when everything isn't known. It is entirely possible that Linus still intended to coerce her then changed his mind or something, or it is also entirely possible that he has no sense of tact and unintentionally made her feel uncomfortable or even threatened for which he has accepted if that was the case. Naomi could have a completely different set of evidence that we haven't seen yet which could completely change the story, or maybe its as simple as her misremembering things because it was 4 years ago. If we treat these things like the media does instead of with the careful consideration that it deserves, then the comments will also fall down the same path of outrage and wasted attention that clickbait asks for. The only concrete things we know is that Naomi is now being harassed by an incel army, and there's maybe an extreme minority who have decided to hate Linus. I just really feel we should be better than this

He did mention wechat conversations and didnt show those, I could reasonably see it as a cultural misunderstanding + you know, tech bro not understanding women thing. I've had people non-maliciously make me feel unsafe all the time as a woman, it doesnt make it ok that it made things feel unsafe, but at least there was no motive I guess. Women are almost always on the alert especially if something bad has happened to them

As for the ghosting, she probably just assumed they'd continue discussing on one of the many social platforms they decided on (sounds like they communicated through like 4 different mediums?) and he got busy and didn't check one of the less used platforms. And if they decided to communicate through say WeChat, its possible that he added the wife to the emails but didn't include her on WeChat which might have also been a bad perception.

Honestly, Linus handled this terribly by making it a public spectacle with his first response. If anything making a public request for a dm to clear up misunderstandings (if there were any) would have been the way to go I think

I agree. If they were communicating after the trip about her joining Floatplane without and issues I doubt Linus was trying to Weinstein her. His wife was also on the email chain

Looks like Linus's Tech Tips is nuking this topic on their forums now, but the drama is spreading on Twitter.

[CW: Racism/Sexism in linked Twitter post replies]

I actually gave him the benefit of the doubt for a long time- made excuses for him but now that his incel army wants to show up in my feed- nah, in retrospect Linus 100% thought I was going to suck his dick for access to Floatplane. Fortunately, he has you to suck it instead.

            The point was the sycophancy.

The point is that was literally my point when all of hexbear piled on me about how it's "inherently homophobic"

This... proves that it isn't! I am vindicated. Like it can't be inherently homophobic until "uhhhhh this context makes it not," the fact that context moderates its interpretation means that it is not inherently homophobic.

Naomi says she thought some emails had gone out to Linus that had not been sent.

Wasn't a "misunderstanding". Those are weasel words and I own my shit. I was mistaken. I thought emails had gone out that did not, and I drew conclusions about that based on previous very uncomfortable interactions- but it was still a mistake on my part- not a "misunderstanding".

if she fucked up and wasn't too proud to admit it good on her, not too many people would do that. if she was pressured into shutting up that sucks.

I follow Naomi, I have for years, and she fessed up to messing up the email chain. However, Linus does not show the chat logs about the hotel visit. He also did not apologize.

But that's not the only problem with Linus. There are other issues listed in this comment section but also he's also super mean to his wife in this video and that left a bad taste in my mouth. He also screws with a PC he made for Hasan Piker because he doesn't like Hasan's politics in this video (Obviously this one is largely for entertainment value, but it came off very mean spirited to me).

And then there is the drama around one of his employees, madison, leaving under suspicious circumstances because she had to sign an NDA. The issue largely believed to be due to sexual harassment.

Dude sucks for a multitude of reasons and I stand by what I said.

I watched the video, and I only saw emails.

I personally was just talking about this situation.

And my POS comment was about my personal experience. As a masc person in tech myself I have seen men behave like this over and over and I have no interest in giving him the benefit of the doubt, especially when there are clearly other issues surrounding him.

Did Naomi Wu mess up? Seems that way and she admitted to it. That doesn't give Linus a pass to shit on her on twitter, talk about it in a podcast where he doesn't apologize for the way he behaved on twitter, and let his fans attack Naomi until she sets her twitter to private? Do you think if Naomi was a man it would have gone down this way? As the one with structural, financial, and popular power in the scenario, Linus had a responsibility to diffuse this situation in a way that minimized damage and he obviously didn't do that.

We aren’t supposed to be mob justice.

I am not calling for any action, just calling it like I see it.

He said it was bad. He did not apologize. He said not to attack Naomi AFTER someone on floatplane chat reminded LUKE to say it. That is not diffusing the situation at all. If he wanted to diffuse the situation, he should have dm'd Naomi and talked about it rationally, but he didn't. This absolutely stirred shit and he he knows it.

They say this basically every week. He has said many times that fans harassing a person on the behalf of someone else is unacceptable and makes the situation worse for everyone.

I am reasonably sure that a listener who is harassing Naomi knows Linus' position but does not care.

but it’s kind of hard to do that when some misinformation is spread publicly

Then ask for it to be taken back. Again, he had all of the power and should have settled it maturely, or just denied it and moved on if Naomi was really so unreasonable (I know she can get wound up sometimes, but it was an event from 4 years ago, I don't blame her for not remembering correctly).

Linus absolutely wouldn't have said it if Luke hadn't brought it up. It's not like this is the first scandal on the internet, everyone knows that you start by telling people not to harass others, look at Cr1TiKaL's videos for an example.

Linus isn't some smol bean youtuber, he is the biggest tech channel on the website, and his handling of this, along with his warranty scandal and what all else. He has the power, so he has the responsibility. I am going to hold him to a much higher standard than a small youtuber in a country that banned youtube.

A kind of similar issue happened a while ago when they moved into a new building and were complaining about some things done by the previous tenant. Despite blurring info in that video some people tried to find and harass the employees of the previous tenant. He's said that people should absolutely stay out of it and never harass anyone on their behalf. Practically speaking that is not going to stop everyone

Which is why these things should be handled publicly only as a last resort and saying not to harass someone as an afterthought comes off as almost intentionally malicious.

I agree that handling things privately would be the best option. I don't think saying you shouldn't harass people 10 minutes earlier, when basically everyone listening has heard that message before on previous episodes, would make a different in the harassment. Only keeping it private would ensure there is no harassment

Fucking hell. I hate this planet and this spectacle that is created of situations like these. This is something that should be mediated by a group of people (mostly women) who can investigate and determine what actually happened. Instead the gates of patriarchy are flung open and a flood of sexist morons flood into the fray and abuse the shit out of women who dare to speak up. Absolutely disgusting. Even if Linus was completely innocuous with his actions stirring up a sexist internet crowd to harass a woman is absolutely despicable and should result in an immediate removal of his platform.

I don't know him personally so I can't really say, but I used to watch his stuff. I could actually see him being dumb enough to have accidentally put her in a situation where she would reasonably think she'd be Weinsteined, and I could also see him being a sex pest. Doesn't help that he's stubborn enough to defend a Weinstein-looking situation.
