TFW you're going through customs and the agent can tell immediately that you ran your passport through the washer and the dryer.

When the FBI searched my house, they took all of my music CDs and smashed a glass change jar on the carpeted floor so glass shards were everywhere, mixed with change, on the carpet.

They can fucking suck it too. :fash-bash:

        Apartment. But yeah.

Also knocked on my parents door before trying to scare them.

Also been followed by weird spooks (probably FBI) several times. Once there was a guy dressed as a homeless person! But he was the same guy that had been spying on us in a park earlier that day, just dressed different. We chased him once we made him in the park. He took off and got in a car with no plates. Then we got pulled over and IDed by local cops when we didn’t break any traffic laws, just so they could see who we all were. Then saw the guy from the park dressed up as a homeless guy at an outdoor cafe we were at. We confronted him and he said “get the fuck away from me or you’re under arrest.” That pretty well confirmed it for us. Luckily they suck at their jobs haha.

Don’t be an activist, kids! Lol.

Counterpoint: it would definitely be in the best interests of the American bourgeoisie that Trump be prevented from winning and DeSantis has an easy path to the presidency in 2024.

Tell me how DeSantis would benefit the bourgeoisie more than Trump, or even Biden. They all deregulate. They all privatize. They all force austerity and labor discipline. They all drag on endless wars. What's the bourgeois calculus on DeSantis vs. Trump in concrete terms?

Trump has weakened the American empire. He also acts in such a way people protested for real.

Trump has weakened the American empire.

              I wish.

He also acts in such a way people protested for real.

Liberals having Trump Derangement Syndrome was just a reflection of their failure to understand that we live in a dictatorship of the bourgeoisie regardless of which individual porky either party nominates as their mascot. They should be pissed off regardless of who is president.

Anyway my question was : What will DeSantis actually do different than Trump or Biden? Vaguely alluding to how Trump has "weakened the American empire" (citation needed) doesn't answer that.

Did you notice countries kinds shifting more towards their own militaries for a while because Trump expected better payments from them or embarrassed their leaders? He burned through a lot of soft power and his trade war also pushed China more into its own sphere, the growing dichotomy became stronger because of this. Biden is trying to bring Europe back into the fold with the united front stuff against Russia and China, and we'll see how that plays out. He also fumbled a couple of coups in south America. And yes, you and I both know libs should be just as angry at every politician. That doesn't change the fact that they only really got angry at one. The argument "libs should be better" is not an argument at all, if they get angrier at him then that is what we need to try to work with.

DeSantis will be similar to Biden, except way more active in pushing everything further right.

DeSantis is actually smart and could accomplish all that bad shit. Trump is too dumb to wield levers of power correctly. Sure the bourgeoisie get their way with Trump but he still limits them. DeSantis is the competent fascist we've all worried about.

DeSantis is actually smart and could accomplish all that bad shit. Trump is too dumb to wield levers of power correctly.

I don't buy "Trump is dumb" theory. He plays dumb but is actually very manipulative. He uses his intelligence in a way that appears stupid on the surface but provokes people to react exactly the way he wants. He's an entertainer, after all. I've noticed he often phrases things in a way that's deliberately open to interpretation so that everyone hears what they want.

Sure the bourgeoisie get their way with Trump but he still limits them.

I don't think giving the rich tax breaks and further privatizing the remaining functions of the state is "limiting the bourgeoisie." His entire term can be characterized as an enormous handout to the bourgeoisie.

DeSantis is the competent fascist we’ve all worried about.

You don't need a "competent fascist." the American government is a dictatorship of the bourgeoisie and its foreign policy has been "competent fascism" on autopilot since at least 1949. I feel like everyone's gonna just let DeSantis Derangement Syndrome replace Trump Derangement Syndrome.

It's gonna be real funny if Trump loses the primary to DeSantis and we watch him become so petulantly bitter that he immediately becomes a huge critic of the DeSantis presidency and.... is rehabilitated and welcomed by the liberals just like George W Bush was.

Anyway my question was : What will DeSantis actually do different than Trump or Biden? All I get is vague handwaving about "competency"

An MSNBC talking head sometime in the near future (mid 2023 maybe?)...

"This 5-4 decision is inexplicable and highly unusual. The majority is claiming that - in effect - Trump could declassify documents merely by the power of pure thought..."

Yeah - it will be really inexplicable and highly unusual. Who could have predicted this? There's not a single person in August, 2022 that could have foreseen this. Not a single one.

Please, mods, I'm begging you for a lathe bot. Triggered by the phrase "no one could have seen this" (uttered unironically); the bit is then stored for 6 months automatically. Whenever the thing comes true, and someone sarcastically posts "No one could have seen this" and includes the subject of an available phrase, the bot immediately can detect the difference between the unironic prophesy and the sarcastic announcement of said prophecy coming true, and then it posts the OP that predicted it, and the timestamp.

On second thought, that might set the website servers on fire

50% chance he put his passports in the wrong box and just realized they're gone. 25% chance the FBI took them because they were related to his time in office (does the President get a special diplomatic passport?) and he wasn't supposed to have them. 25% chance that the entire safe was an unorganized pigsty and the agents doing the search just said 'fuck it' and took anything that looked vaguely relevant.

Donald Trump belongs to the class that the FBI exists to serve. While the above was humor and not serious speculation (except insofar as there is a kernel of truth in all effective humor), I think that it would take a hell of a lot more than missing Presidential records to get the tool of the bourgeoisie to turn on a member of the bourgeoisie - it makes the other rats nervous. Don't let the fact that MAGA clowns are correct that the FBI is dirty and should be abolished trick you into thinking that any of their specific conspiracy theories is substantial.

Quite frankly, I think you're vastly overestimating Trump's importance to the rest of the American bourgeoisie. . They can be in conflict all the time - but there are certain lines that don't get crossed because of the potential of mutually assured destruction. To lose the protection of those rules, you have to actively mess with the bag. Trump simply isn't messing with the bag.

Isn't it illegal to hold onto expired identification? That might just be something a pig said to me once about driver's licenses

Almost certainly not. They're still useful to keep as even if they're expired, they still prove citizenship, so you can use it as verification in certain situations where you might not want to use your original birth certificate for fear of losing it in the mail or something

May be a state to state thing. When my first ever drivers license expired the lady at the dmv told me I could keep it as long as she cut one of the corners off. I think they’re worried about people giving them to their underage friends to try and buy alcohol with

Within a year I got pulled over and a cop found it in my wallet and told me it was illegal to have two ids no matter what. Nothing ever came of it, the cop loves to lie, it’s in his nature.

When I renewed my license last year they gave me my old one back, but not before running it through this machine that printed a bunch of little holes in it that spelled out "VOID."

Also that cop was bullshitting. It's not illegal to carry an expired license on you so long as it's been defaced (which it already has been since you cut off one of the corners).

fun shitty fact: US passports do not belong to the person whose info they contain. inside they are printed as being property of the US government and are therefore required to be turned over to the US government on request. technically speaking, the government can't steal a citizen's passport.

22 CFR § 51.7 Passport property of the U.S. Government. (a) A passport at all times remains the property of the United States and must be returned to the U.S. Government upon demand.

the language and laws around passports is pretty hardcore.

Does anybody really think donald trump couldn't get somewhere without a passport? You don't even need a passport as a US citizen to enter Canada (just proof of your citizenship). Can you imagine if Russia gate stuff was real and Trump loads onto economy class to Moscow but then putin or whoever is like "oh, you don't have your passport guess you can't get asylum here sorry tovarish looks like democrats win"

Hard to say. I don't really think someone is going to physically beat a senator to an inch of their life on the Senate floor these days. I could see maybe a sucker punch, and capital police hauling them out, but beyond that, it's hard to imagine.

Shits popping off though. It's only a matter of time until one of these Y'all Queda dudes gets a real hit in. I wonder if there's going to be a shift from random mall/school shootings to political violence.
