It's illustrative of something about how libs view the world and their conspiracy brainworms. Commies are such a small percentage of the western electorate but they treat us like a huge problem for them. And then act like shits and ignore the large pools of potential voters alienated by years of austeriy politics.

I hate how they completely ignore how there's ongoing oppression against queer people and racial minorities right now, under Biden, and he's doing nothing about it or is actively making it worse. I live in Texas. Completely within Biden's term my state has outlawed trans healthcare and abortions. They've also begun gutting schools in primarily black or Latino districts. Biden's response has been to bomb Palestinians.

And yet these liberals tell me Trump is going to do worse to me? Biden's already allowing the worst of the fascists to do whatever they please. Biden in his second term is gonna overthrow the Texan state and shoot Greg Abbott in the head? And at the same time he'll bomb Palestinian kids?

Biden on immigration. Increase in deportations over Trump. Continued incarceration of children. Increase in arrest over Trump. Building the wall Trump started.

The guy is worse than Trump on immigration except in the opposite way Republicans say.

It's things like this that really vindicates the whole scratched liberal thing from last century. At every single opportunity, without fail, liberals betray the working masses to fascists, always "compromising" and giving them carte blanche to do what they want, and when the fascists gain power, they won't do anything because they don't like changing the status quo. All because they fear a state controlled by the workers.

If you can't leverage an action to get something, what good is that action? How valuable is it if you gain nothing from withholding it?

If the president won't change to get votes, then why bother voting for them at all?

Why engage with the electoral system if your only viable choice is to vote one party?

How is this system any good if a single election can destroy democracy forever? And finally, why would anybody say that this is a good system worth defending?

The qualifier at the end there is because there's lots of proof that moderates/independents threatening to vote for Republicans or not vote has in fact forced measurable change out of Democrats on many occasions.

I have been thinking about this more and more lately, and I think the push needs to be for people to vote for a third party if they have the option or otherwise leave a candidate blank, not to stay home. If people just stay home, the Democrats can waive them off and keep moving the party to the right. If Genocide Joe loses because a bunch of people voted for a third party candidate to the left of Biden, they can't ignore that easily.

Staying home should not be an option considering the importance of state ballot initiatives, constitutional amendments, school board and city council seats, etc.

The presidential Ballot is not as important as those local elections.

Why would you assume this and not the simpler explanation this was always the preferred course of action by the overwhelming ruling class and this perceived threat or the electoral game is itself just an excuse.

Another popular theory is the democrats have always been controlled opposition, people repeat this often, they're not meant to do or believe any leftist position.

"The democrats are moving right" is a popular narrative but were they ever to the "left" to the begin with? For example you can say yes you can also give a counter example of them doing outright right wing policies.

No matter how we decide, even if we take the dems as actual "left" on the American political discourse, I'm still not realy convinced they're moving right because of these right wing voters.

On the contrary I think the Democrats realized that Blue MAGA is real, their voters are just as unprincipled as they are, they only care about winning therefore they don't even have to pander to leftist positions anymore therefore giving the imagine they're moving right, no perhaps they just stopped pretending to be leftists at all.

I think that's a useful talking point to reach some kind of common ground with people who have faith in the capacity of the political system to produce positive outcomes, but I don't. Voting will not save us. Not voting will not save us. The Democratic Party is the left wing of capital. As a structure it is not responsive to any democratic process. It's possible that they lose in November. If the Greens or the PSL get 10% or 20% of the vote, they will not see that and think we need to seriously rethink our strategy, only those prole traitors fucked us. maybe we can send some of them to the camps to peel off more votes in the red state suburbs. Look at the UK. the liberal party has been consistently eating shit for over a decade, and it's only made them more contemptuous and hostile to social progress.

the only road forward runs through the rubble of their system. we will never win a thing by begging or yelling or holding our breath. we need to learn how to fight again.

    Show

Hexbear either hates Biden as much as Trump or it hates Biden more than Trump, depending on which person you ask about the Hexbear spectre and on which day you ask them.

They usually agree that Hexbear is indistinguishable from Trump supporters.

They are seemingly in agreement that abstaining from voting does nothing but they are also seemingly in agreement that not voting is effective because it facilitates the victory for the side you oppose.

So if we are telling people not to vote then:

    • It should be of no concern because it doesn't do anything

    • It should be of no concern because (ostensibly) we support Trump and not Biden and when we tell one another on this site not to vote we would be making a Biden win more viable

    • They also think this a credible threat to Biden's re-election because they're talking about how bad things would be if we "get our way" and Trump is elected

I just can't parse out how many conflicting and contradictory arguments are all getting jumbled into that conversation in that thread yet everyone seems to be nodding in agreement with eachother.

It's like a nightmare "Yes, and..." situation in there.

Ah, I think I know what's happened here. We often point out how voting for the "lesser evil" just results in the government becoming more evil over time. Liberal hate this, and don't want it to be true. So they assert that the opposite is true, that somehow, not voting is the thing that makes the government bad. If they view something as an insult, but don't understand it, they just adopt the "no u" attitutide towards that, and combine that with a healthy dose of repeating themselves enough times to make something become true. I think I might call this phenomenon "Dorothyism" after the wizard of Oz, they just repeat "They're the ones doing the bad thing, not me" over and over again, hoping it will return them back to Kansas.
