Feeling despondent these days, anyone have any big hype movie recommendations to make the vibes less rancid? I could go for some aggressively commie action movies or something.
Seconding RRR, one of the best action movies I've seen and it's all about killing British people in India (and the power of friendship)
Cannot endorse this movie highly enough. Probably the best action movie produced in the last 20 years.
Battle at Lake Chiangjin is INCREDIBLE don't believe the haters (i think that's how you spell it don't @ me though)
The scene where they're all laid out on the rocks and the American planes are coming to gun them down and they have this INSANE camera moment... Holy shit does technical achievement not automatically mean good cinema. I was on the ground laughing at how nauseating it was.
Avatar.
Yes, literally. I mean the whole third act is a bunch of imperialist military assholes getting killed set against glorious, beautiful alien world vistas
Honestly there are scenes of giant blue good guys jumping on moving PMC helicopters and absolutely w r e c k i n g the shit of these dudes coded as US military goons, and it’s a heroic, celebratory moment
Sorry to bother you has good vibes in that direction and was created by Boots Riley, a very cool commie.
Come and See is a classic Soviet war film that'll really pump you up :picard-troll:
"Che" with Benicio del Toro is pretty good https://m.imdb.com/title/tt0892255/
Carlos (2010) is the closest thing I can think of to a communist action flick. I’d suggest the 5 hour version (seriously lol)
Commie flicks that are kickass if not actual action flicks include:
Anything by Costa-Gavras. Z (1969) is his most popular but it’s mostly about fascists. State of Siege (1972) and Shock Troops (1967) are both about fighting fascists, the former about the Tupamaros and the latter about the Maquis. Z and State of Siege are both true stories, and State of Siege is based as fuck.
I haven’t seen RRR (2022) yet but I heard it’s pretty badass.
They Live (1988) isn’t exactly a communist movie but it is an action film about ideology.
RRR has been on my list for so long. I really need to set time aside to watch it.
The way They Live explores how ideology works is it's most intersting angle but it's also quite literally about what capitalism does to a planet.
Animal World (2018) is a great chinese film, give it a try! It was such a compelling watch, honestly one of my favorite movies. The visuals are top-notch.
I just watched this and it's really good. Good recommendation
here's ur bear good gentlesir :hexbear:
Yes, Battle of Brest Fortress and T-34 (I think it's called?) are good if you don't mind some nostalgia for the red army's glory days. The former one is a bit more serious and is about a last stand, but both are good hype movies in which Communists fight Nazis and often come out on top.
Battle of Brest Fortress
Idk if OP should watch this one if she's looking for better vibes. Definitely one of those films where each scene feels darker and more despondent than the last.
On the other hand, theres a Nazi getting clubbed in the face with a chair at one point so...
Yeah you're probably right. I personally loved that shit but I could see how it's possibly the wrong vibe.
Don't get me wrong, I love that movie too. It's just not a cheer up movie.
Tank Brigade (czech 1955) is pretty cool, lots of tanks and explosions Red Army kicking the shit outta nazis
Platform is pretty good and can be found on Netflix so most people should be able to see it. Also of course Parasite, and Snowpiercer. Also saw They Live and give a heavy recommendation for that as well.
I watched Platform more than a year ago and I still have this song stuck in my head.
