Almost as cool as the dev who got PTSD from watching animal slaughter videos for the gore & finishing move reference when they were working on one of the latest Mortal Kombat games.
https://yewtu.be/watch?v=dsr-AVxXFdo cw: it is andrew tate he's a human trafficker and i believe a pro domestic violence activist im not entirely clear
This guy is the current Jordan Peterson for disaffected male youths and he is so much worse than the old Jordan Peterson.
what a freak. yeah he ran a trafficking ring where he manipulated women into being camgirls and giving him a portion of their earnings. he then got famous by teaching other people how to do this. if ive only seen one person who deserves the wall, this is it :pit:
helps you realize that we are just animals like every other living thing and subject to nature
:geordi-no: learning about nature and our place in it
:geordi-yes: hyperfixating on destructive power until you become the least bearable person alive
This is actually the most common reaction I get to showing people images of pogroms done by the Ukrainians against Russian speakers in the country, burning unionists in Odessa alive (and laughing at their charred bodies on social media), leaving children tied up in the cold with their pants down, or torturing POWs to death:
1.) I've seen gorier.
2.) These things just happen.
I remember falling into that pit of trying to numb myself to shit and having multiple sleepless nights after finding just the most awful shit possible as a teenager. In particular I found Encyclopedia Dramatica's "offended" page to be the true test as to whether I was numb enough seeing how far down I could scroll before I had to give up. I never made it to the bottom, but I got desensitized to a lot of stuff in the process. Helps a little bit in healthcare to be able to look at gross wounds. There's something inherently different about an image of a crime scene where someone's been brutalized and an autopsy video where they're providing educational information.
Still sometimes I have to remind myself that I don 't need to go looking for these images just because someone says they're available on the internet.
I remember very briefly trying to be one of those edgy kids but just a few minutes on rotten and I realized I was not in fact one of those kids.
And the most bazinga brained part is people literally think the gore is getting worse now cause its too much and so divorced from reality in its final ingame forms.
Traumatizing your devs with thousands of hours of liveleak just to make it so your target audience dont even flinch from seeing it, diseased game franchise.
realistic gore :geordi-no:
people exploding in a ridiculous shower of gibs and bones :geordi-yes: :sicko-quake-guy:
also
realistic death animations with people stumbling and writhing in pain :geordi-no:
ridiculous ragdolls with enemies being blasted into walls so hard they get glitched into the level geometry :geordi-yes:
Just make the ninjas bologna with one bone in the middle, it’s funnier
I just read about it the other day and it put me on a massive fucking downer for the rest of the day.
Happened to both, I think the Dead Space devs had to look at mangled car crash victims
That is certainly creepy as fuck but I can see how it would happen given typical workflow in that generation especially.
Find a reference, find an image that matches the reference, map it to the model. Even if they made a completely unique charred corpse face they would likely have to subject themselves to even more such images to draw one from scratch and they would still have to look at a bunch of gruesome reference pics anyway.
People already have their hands on AI generated gore I bet. I have some indistinct superstitions about death images. Or suspicions about their effect on us. https://lr.riverside.rocks/r/HalfLife/comments/zqcbo7/in_the_light_of_recent_news_my_balaclava_looks/
Yeah but back then they didn't so that's just how you would do it (briefly went to school for 3d modeling then they cut the course out of the curriculum for budgetary reasons at the community college I went to)
People are gonna figure out how to make algorithmic art that's so hyperdisturbing it kills me instantly.
This is the Half-Life community’s Speer Hoodie.
WHY IS THIS GOD DAMN MOD EVERYWHERE
Loab is waiting at the edge of the algorithm, one day she will haunt us again
Elmer is a ghost in the latent space https://fxtwitter.com/KingDad42/status/1604786822957367297
They don't know about Elmer
Is that the creepy completely blackened and withered corpse model or the one wearing a citizen uniform with the skeleton face
The first one especially stuck in my memory since it's not what video game set dressing corpses usually look like
Half-Life 2 had a lot of creepy corpses in it actually
damn i always click things like deaddove.pjeg cuz like you know it's porbaly an array of shaved vagains but ive never got lucky twice
Yeah I did a bit of a dive into this. Amazing how we're still discovering crazy shit about Half Life 2 all these years later. Still probably my favorite game of all time
https://kotaku.com/that-time-sony-threw-a-god-of-war-party-with-a-dead-goa-1734350134
depending on who did the catering for that party, there was a lot more than one dead goat
An acquaintances older brother worked on God of War 2 or 3, can't remember which. Wonder if he went to that party.
Oh wow, that is one hell of a fourth degree burn. From what I gathered on reddit they're likely a donated body that was used for burn studies and featured in a medical textbook. The whole face is selectively burned off down to the skull.
Yeah makes sense, its too creative to be made by human minds
