It’s incredible that they make posts like this every month. Like some random communist guy posts a semi funny Soviet meme and they shit all over their bed and demand a Party Statement of Condemnation by the Chairman of Reddit

Have you looked at literacy stats in the US lately? Something like 20% of adults have low or no reading ability. Only 12% of adults have a high ability.

And Common Core has made this significantly worse. Kids in schools using the modules (different from the standards) come into 3rd grade having been taught to read through rote memorization and at that point the curriculum switches from “learn to read” to “read to learn” and they stop getting the same level of formal English instruction. Comprehension skills are in the fucking toilet and the assessments they recommend for tier 3 intervention in my district aren’t even wholistic enough to assess comprehension.

We sold our education system to text book corporations and it almost immediately failed the kids that started school as their system was being implemented. American schooling will be privatized within my lifetime. Hope the kids like working in the factories because their parents can’t afford high school like the rich kids. (Scholarships are, of course, available as long as you’re conventionally intelligent and fRom A gOoD FAmIlY)

Everyone but the people who sell common core text books hates common core.

Yeah but chuds hate it because their death cult has stuffed their heads with pro-privatization rhetoric. I like the common core standards. But the modules are an active harm to children. It’s like they were written by people whose idea of teaching comes from watching teenage sitcoms.

Chuds hate it because it’s called Common.

Liberals love it because it is a fun mental exercise.

It’s basically a joint strike fight and McDonald’s at the same time.

At this point - we have teachers who grew up on common core and hate it as professionals now.

It teaches very narrow definitions, and puts an emphasis on performing on written tests. It’s got no relation to the real world.

The math stuff, yeah, it can be a good system, but it’s not for everyone. Especially children, it’s math, there are multiple valid ways to get an answer, and honestly with the way technology is going, understanding what are the actual factors in the problem matters more.

Same with history, memorization of details matters less than knowing broad pictures, as more and more history keeps happening, but also history works best in a way that relates to the child.

            I’m just rambling.

Fuck, the most useful thing for ChatGPT and data science in education is helping teachers and schools with getting a kids attention on that sweet spot of things they need to know in ways that appeal to them. Of course, that won’t happen as that would be a good thing and not be profitable.

I see China's standard of living and world power doing nothing but increasing in the coming years.

Soon no matter how they spin it, it will be obviously superior while the west flails about trying to cope and propagandize itself into saying "things are actually better here".

Cuba is not a utopia. No, we will not implement the good ideas that we support mutually because that would be supporting dictators. It is fundamental that we preserve our freedoms by subjecting gay people and make basic medicine unaffordable

The "Cuba isn't a utopia" horseshit completely gives away the game, anti-sovietism has always been a staple of the western anti-communtist left, but the inclusion of a Latin American radical struggle shows these people are not only outright reactionary nationalists but downright fascists

Just like Zizek last month, the unjustifiable hostility towards Latin American leftism reveals the primary motivation of these scumbags is to try and smuggle a soft white nationalism thru the backdoor of left radical politics

Did Zizek also shit on Latin American leftism last month in addition to outing himself as a raging terf? It wouldn't suprise me when that slava ukraini ivory tower hotdog graveyard has done that as well, just saying i kinda missed how he did that.

Why must the western left just constantly fucking fight among itself rather than ACTUALLY DOING SHIT.

Go support the local unions that are striking near by. Help them connect with your workplace so you can create a network. Find people struggling with rising food prices or houselessness or drug addiction and FUCKING HELP THEM.

They aren't leftists, they've adopted the affect of leftism, not because of a belief in materialist philosophy, or an anarchist philosophy rooted in opposition to hierarchy (though many still call themselves anarchists). They're bored, Western liberals looking for something to argue about online, attaching themselves to the ruling class approved, sanitized list of historical "good guys" because, like all liberals, they fear the moral judgement of future generations more than they want to create a better world for them.

To the extent that individual opinions matter in a society where working class power has been totally annihilated, just talking to people, sharing the experiences of people who lived through socialist revolutions can be very moving to liberals. My reevaluation of Mao from decades of being told he was a monster came from the teary-eyed testimonies of women sold as chattel to landlords in their teens talking about how the communists liberated them, made them equal, and taught them to read.

Nah. Capitalism is the ocean we all live in but we don't all live at the same point in the water column.

Think of it like this: Marx once compared independent farmers to "potatoes in a sack" because each farm can be mostly self-sufficient, which means they only have the flimsiest interests in common. Cut the sack, resolve those interests, and they all fall apart.

Today most Americans are even more atomized than those farmer potatoes. Most of us aren't in unions, work in either precarious gig jobs or in inhetently individualistic office cultures, are catered to with personalized entertainment options, and move around constantly chasing cheaper rent or better jobs. We're worse than potatoes in a sack, we're chips in a bag.

Not firm enough. Real-world organization comes from workplaces because you have a group of people with similar interests who see each other every day, as capitalism has become more atomized the conditions required to form those kinds of orgs have become more and more rare.

College campuses are the next best thing, but we've seen pretty conclusively by this point that college kids can't organize for shit either. I think the only hope of radical left wing organization in America is a militant group forming in an Amazon warehouse or Wal Mart or something like that.

Which is asinine because even if you were an Aryan male citizen of Nazi Germany, you'd still be stuck in substandard housing (due to chronic underivestment in housing due to rampant military spending), eat substandard food (due to Germany relying on imported food and not having forex reserves to meet demand due to also having to import raw materials for the arms industry), then the government would occasionally just scam you out of your money (by offering you a "peoples car" that people prepaid for and never got).

And that's before the shooting started and you'd get conscripted to face down T-34s in minus 20 with nothing but a rifle and a light autumn uniform jacket.
