Imagine not being terrified by discord. A million channels whizzing past you with no clear opportunity to participate, it's like being around a circle of friends and acquaintances and never knowing if you're actually in the conversation or not.

I really only enjoy smaller discord servers, the big ones with the fast moving channels are a headache to deal with.

I like this post because it prompted me to think of ways to get chapo discorders onto the site. We're over 3300 users now, which is a huge success so close to launch, and its rising rapidly. I'm pretty sure the majority of that is people in the discord going 'fuck, fine.'

I think a lotta people just need a lil prompt; we gotta make it look like the cool thing to do ;) hahaha

Honestly, there is huge value in both communities imo. :af-heart:

having better platforms than discord would be ideal tho; even if that's the preferred format. discord is deeply fucked as a platform.

Discord has a "suppress @everyone" feature that 70% of the userbase uses. This results in people not receiving the @everyone message you sent out.

You can bypass this by making a new role on the discord. Adding literally the entire discord into it. Then use that to send an @ ping out.

      Harass people to join.

The suggestion has been made already but a matrix chat box as part of the site would be dope.

I don't agree with chat, it's addictive, but if they must do it let them do it here at home. Harm reduction :grinning face:

Hahaha harm reduction, I love that. You can see in your userpage that front-end exists for matrix integration. It's not up and running yet, but integration is definitely in the cards. And it will be majestic.

Then we can slowly win over comrades from the dark side of the chatstream looks at own hands

Hey! So, I have an answer for you!

You have to have 'See NSFW' turned on on your user profile to see the custom emojis for now. Basically, the devs were concerned about imageposting, and so made the user NSFW filter apply to emojis as a quick fix. This will not be the permanent situation, but, for now, if you want to see the custom chapo emojis, you have to enable See NSFW content on your user profile page.

So I do get that it's not the most elegant solution, but that's the answer for now. Sometime not too long from now you'll be able to see emojis and still have NSFW content filtered out, the devs are working diligently :thumbs up:

Discorders are only the tip of the iceberg, the mods need to reach out to reddit mods of leftist subs, and tell them we relocated to chapo.chat. Remember, the discord only had a bit more than 10k, we have more than 150k when we got banned, which means the overwhelming majority of our comrades stayed on reddit.

Something to understand. At least a portion of that was just reddit liberals who agreed with some of what we said or enjoyed highly upvoted Bernie posts but who would never move to another website and resented most of our content anyways but wouldn't see it as they just had us as another subscription on their home feed. I would bet at least half the subscriber numbers were people like that.

Admittedly we had 3-5k people online and browsing the sub at any given hour of the day and that's pretty impressive so probably still looking at several tens of thousands of people who could be willing to be users.

Yeah, remember when online communities are deplatformed, a substantial percent of people don't move onto other platforms. It's why deplatforming subreddits generally works, but in this case it's turned against us.

PSA: if you’re on a phone and you “add to homescreen” (instructions vary by platform) the emulated-app experience is quite nice. Removes a lot of the browser chrome and gives you more leg room to post in

The spirit of the discord is different from a reddit like forum space, due to the nature of how posts are presented. I prefer the reddit/lemmy format, but of those who migrated from the sub to the discord, im sure some prefer discord, including the abikity for voice discussion and to have large community discussions.

Additionally there are many groups on the discord that are not yet on here, such as the internationale groups, the struggle sessions groups, the ideology groups, and the same atomization of hobby groups. If any of those are your main area of interest, you are better served on the discord while the chat is still slowly ramping up (as they should to prevent raids)

Tl;Dr the chat isn't "done, done" yet, and people prefer the format of the discord to the current chat. A slow trickle for now is fine

I hate discord but I said from day one once it was implemented they were going to be stubborn as fuck about letting it go until discord itself actually shuts us down for saying slave owners are bad. Especially as the most stubborn "no discord only" people are new users who were barely on the subreddit and jumped to the Ark by chance.

Anyone who prefers IRC-style internet chat to forum-style internet chat clearly doesn't have enough social anxiety to be on the internet in the first place.

This is an opinion I have held since the 90s and I won't be changing my mind any time soon.

I grew up using mIRC in the early 2000s. It was the foundation of my early internet experiences. I'm pretty used to chat-esque applications because of that I think. And yes, I do have social anxiety.

Yes! At the very least with having tickets right now, we won't have go through lottery again or get caught in the mayhem that's going to be trying to get tickets at public on-sale (since the tour will be in incredibly high demand).

I finally made my account after lurking for a few days and honestly this place is just kinda depressing. Even compared to the original sub the memes and twitter screenshots feel particularly stale. I think one of the things you can't replace about the reddit is that sometimes you'd have fresh blood circulating in from outside the ecosystem to help keep things relatively fresh. Or maybe it's just that you have to click on every individual meme to enlarge them on mobile.
