Randomly musing here, I think I'm one of the few people who has posted my full body/face here (not like that, it was a cool clip of my band playing in an underground waterway). I've met a few Hexbears IRL and hang out from time to time, and I'm always curious as to what other users actually look like.

Absolutely not in a horny way, to be clear, just out of curiosity.

Damn that's some good doom. How is the Chicago doom scene anyways? The San Jose one kinda sucked by the time I was there, too techified.

Oh god don't get me fucking started. We have some good bands, but as a performer, it's super incestuous and I fucking hate it. I quite giving a shit about scenes by the time I was 21 (over a decade ago). Now I just play shows for myself.

I actually got myself into a spot of trouble not too long ago for expressing this opinion about an Illinois doom fest that some people I know are booking.

Yup, sounds like most scenes. I think my favorite scene was the Vacaville/North Berkeley scene in like 2012-2014. Just alot of poor older highschool and community college music kids fucking around with shoegaze and indie pop, no real pretentions involved cause all the pretentious kids played at the Gilman. Was a cool scene to play in, no idea what happened after I moved.

Thanks, I'll keep that in mind for Chicago though, maybe make a trip there in a year or two. Try not to get yourself kicked out of the scene by then lol.

I've seen more. ALso, while I do like an Orange, I prefer Matamp (they used to be the ones who built the original Oranges. They're still their own thing now, still in business, but much smaller).

Look up the now defunct band Beast in the Field. I can't find it now, but there used to be a picture of their guitarist standing outside with about....20 cabs I'd guess? Never counted.

I think because part of our founding was rooted in the BLM protest resurgence in 2020, there was a fairly big shift of not posting pictures of oneself for opsec reasons. That said, I remember some naked pics on one of the lifeboat discords.

I've posted my motorcycle, where you can juuuuust make me out as a blurry set of pixels in the reflection on my helmet visor. I've also posted video of my dog where you can hear my voice/see my arm petting her.

I'm certain I'm far too uninteresting to attract a doxxer, but it's still something I'm a bit paranoid about at times. But anyway I'm a large coastal adult son.

That's a badass looking bike! Much cooler than like 90% of Harleys I've seen. If I was to ride, I'd look into an Indian brand bike. They look kinda like yours!

My dad's a Harley guy, keeps telling me to get one - but idk I really love the "standard" look and I'm not a fan of the bobtail or chopper or anything like that (though I did raise my bars which did wonders for my comfort on long rides).

Indians are cool, I would also look at Triumphs and Royal Enfields for the classic Euro/American bike look, but basically every brand has a "modern classic" line right now since that became trendy about ten years ago. I would avoid getting an actual classic until you're really experienced at maintenance, lmao.

Any issues with getting parts since the SMO began? I've wanted an ural for a while now (especially since I'm in a winter location and would keep riding in the winter but was sketchy on my normal bike) but that's something I've been curious about

A few issues for large parts, less so for small ones. There are a couple fasteners on my bike that were sold out on the Ural store but I found the exact same part on the Home Depot website, lmao. Now that they're producing in Kazakhstan I expect what issues exist (ie getting replacement exhausts and gearboxes) to smooth out by next year.

That plus the English-speaking Ural community's thirty years of slightly sketchy repair advice means I've never been frustrated for lack of parts.

Long dark haired tall and skinny white dude, I get called "Jesus" by people in public as a joke sometimes. Which is very ironic as I'm an atheist. I live in a more remote area of South Africa, so I guess it's uncommon to see people that look like that outside of the big cities.

Unironically due to CFS, when I used :reddit-logo: the little shot of adrenaline that having porn mixed with my scrolling helped me get through the day. But now I just drink caffeine and let the anxiety do that for me. Even at my most porn brainiest I wouldn't ask why a non-porn site doesn't have porn on it, that's a real 're-evaluate my life' moment.

It boils down to a couple main reasons:

      1. The mainstream culture around porn and sites that host it is deeply objectifying and misogynistic. We still have problems with he/him pronouns coming into threads where conventionally attractive women are posted to AWOOGA (ironically or not) and that's without even allowing pornographic content. We try very hard to NOT be reddit, which means excising as much of that grossness as possible, and we still have a good ways to go.
      2. [CW: child abuse]

It's a pain in the ass to moderate and significantly increases the chance that CP will get posted. No one wants to be exposed to that and we don't want to be liable for such disgusting content ending up here.

Based on these reasons, the most sensible policy is a blanket ban on porn.

Yeah it really sucks how simply showing yourself on the internet as a woman (or someone people think looks like one) is taken as an invitation for sexual comments. And so much of the time it takes the form of copy-pasted phrases that people will defend as "just a joke" if you call them out on it. I swear people lose all of their braincells when they go on the internet, like it's not less sexual harassment just because it's the internet.

Yeah I feel like genuine, impactful sex-positivity requires understanding and internalizing leftist theory. Even the most well-meaning and ostensibly "progressive" libs who claim to be sex-positive are still holding on to patriarchal concepts of sex and consent, intentionally or not. And unsurprisingly, the worst offenders in that regard are cishet dudes. Many self-proclaimed "woke" guys just want a plausible excuse to be creeps, rather than actively helping break down the walls that capitalists have built around our conceptions of intimacy and love.
