so what if his movies are aggressively twee, the man knows what he likes and sticks with it

tho I never saw The French Dispatch, it just didn't appeal to me at all for some reason. but this one looks fun

I am the kind of person who should have really liked the French dispatch. And I just... didn't. I love almost all of his other movies

Movies with this much star power always reek of industry insider circle-jerking which I always find distracting.

im a real whore for Wes Anderson but his peak period was my teenage and college years so you know how that goes. also 9 times out of 10 an ensemble cast is just there to distract you from the meh story.

I think his best stuff is the earliest stuff. Bottle Rocket and Rushmore have very low Twee Factors (non-existent in Bottle Rocket’s case) and those are my favorites. Royal Tennenbaums is really where he honed that Wes Anderson style but the movie itself is just so dang good. But Grand Budapest Hotel… could not even finish it. The man has become a charicature of himself.

His movies have diminishing returns for me these days, but I'll still give them a go. Or maybe I'll just watch The Life Aquatic again for the 50th time since that's my fave.

Huh, this very well could be the first I hate. Can't stand ~half the cast, especially Hanks. Did Murray get metooed or something?

Did Murray get metooed or something?

Yes actually, he assaulted a production assistant on a movie set and the whole production shut down because of it.

The biggest shock is that it didn't get brushed under the rug, but I can imagine it's because the movie is written/produced/directed by Aziz Ansari and he either doesn't want to risk being seen as being involved in bad shit again, or hopefully because he has a no bullshit policy even to one of biggest names of the last 40+ years of comedy. The movie may now never happen due to scheduling and now the writers strike. I feel like Murray is done now, as no one he would want to work with/can afford him, would want to work with him, as this was his response -

"I did something I thought was funny, and it wasn't taken that way. The company, the movie studio, wanted to do the right thing, so they wanted to check it all out, investigate it, and so they stopped the production. But as of now, we're talking and we're trying to make peace with each other."[6] In October of that year, reports emerged that Murray had allegedly straddled a "much younger" female production assistant and while both masked, kissed her on the mouth, causing her to file an official complaint.

That's not why he's missing though. My understanding is that he got COVID the week he was scheduled to shoot his scenes.
