Unfathomably funny- He also just removed virtually all of the awful republican line items from the budget, so they got nothing.

Everyone please keep doing this to chuds forever. Just veto out letters from their bullshit to make the entirely different legislation you want instead.

Remember that when Dems say shit like "UwU we c-can't do anything nice even though you voted us in c-cause the Republicans stop us." it's total bullshit.

They could do so much more then what they do, but they don't want to because they hate poors and love capitalism just as much as chuds.

If they really wanted to fight bigoted systemic problems they could if they actually fought for it properly and were willing to be even the slightest bit rude to the GOP

That’s the thing, if Democrats actually did stuff like this, I might consider voting for them. Literally just do whatever you have to to make life better for workers. I don’t care about ideologically purity. I’ll take a Democrat like this who may be more centrist idk but will actually do shit over someone ostensibly more “left” but useless like AOC who will paralyze themselves over liberal niceties or notions like “well if we do it then the Republicans will just do the same thing when they are in power”.

The entire point of having power is that you find ways to keep yourself in power while keeping people you don’t like out of power. It’s literally Power Dynamics 101. They should teach that at Harvard alongside Basic Economics™

Scott Walker is gone, but the project he is a part of is still around and incredibly dangerous.

There is a movement to end public schools in America and replace it with giving every parent a check. The religious right loves this because either they can send their kids to schools where they learn to hate gay people and that the earth is 6,000 years old; or they just homeschool and pocket the money. Capital loves it because it would break possibly the most powerful union remaining in the US (teachers).

Thankfully, this movement can only accomplish so much because outside of religious nuts, Americans actually do like public schools (well, they like their public schools, fuck kids in poor neighborhoods we don’t care if their schools suck$.

Basically some republican governor made it legal, based on the assumption that their party would never lose the seat ever again. Of course, they then proceeded to immediately lose, and it just continued to be legal.

also they know the normal behavior of the democrats is "we cant do this because then anyone can do it and that would be dangerous" and this guy was like "yeah they on do it anyways so fuck it" and ITS ABOUT FUCKING TIME

He should do that by doing the line item veto trick on some parliamentary decorum legislation. Like oh you thought you were giving yourself a long weekend? Guess what.

I love the policy but hate that this is possible Governors should not exist -- every state should be a unicameral legislature & executive roles should be directly elected But line-item vetos should EXTREMELY not exist

If US states had unicameral parliaments, then every red state would be a permanent one-party dictatorship by the GOP with no possibility of any checks any majority of voters.

If US states had unicameral parliaments, then every red state would be a permanent one-party dictatorship by the GOP with no possibility of any checks any majority of voters.

This is currently the situation in most red states, there are no checks on them already. Bicameral legislatures are undemocratic and bad and we shouldn’t have them. Like, they make even less sense than a bicameral federal setup. Ostensibly, there is a reason why an states should have equal footing in a senate (it’s mostly for the bourgeoisie to maintain power, but I get the idealistic argument) but at the state level the senate maps are either arbitrary or follow county lines, which makes no sense.

My comment was less about the unicameral/bicameral legislature, and more about the lack of a popularly elected governor. For the states, since both house and senate seats are basically allocated in the same manner (proportional to population with gerrymandering) the distinction doesn't matter on the state level.

The bicameral legislature is literally one of the worst elements of the structure of the government along with the electoral college and constitutional review.

States shouldn’t exist either, but if I had to choose between state that kills me and state that gives me food, I’ll choose the state that gives me food. Isn’t this what liberals call harm reduction?
