Requesting advice re: painting my nails.

I chew my finger nails constantly and don't plan on stopping. But I'd like to paint them. What do? Just keep painting them repeatedly? Let them get gnarly? For reference I have zero style and am a frumpy disheveled guy in general so it wouldn't be too out of character

You can get polish that tastes bad, specifically to deter biting your nails.

You can also try uaing clear polish to practice and let your nails grow.

Change your habitual biting to something else, like a stim toy could be used when you feel like biting your nails..

Alright fair, I guess I should work towards that either way. I think if I painted them regardless I'd bite them less. I'm just such a gremlin

I used to be a biter, but I use clear polish a lot.. but now I mix in holo glitter clear polish from time to time.. I have long nails now though.

If you can stop habitually biting them and are conscious of doing it switching to even manicuring your nails or taking more care of them, using a file and such it helps a lot.. use nail clippers if you have to cut them down again etc.

I'm not necessarily trying to get long luxurious nails but this is definitely what I should do. I drive long distances for work and it's just so tough to not gnaw when I'm stressed, which is basically always.

Anyway, tyvm for the input! I think I'll just try my best and see how it turns out, and work on improving it a little at a time. Good to have a goal!

Oh yeah I was gonna suggest the bitter clear polish too, then it helps you be more conscious of biting your nails as a habit. Cause you taste it even if you're doing it as an idle habit

Yeah there are a few products for it, even bad tasting normal polish iirc.

Funnily enough I have stopped biting mine completely since growing them long, I got out of the habit of doing it.

I feel like nail polish is a thing people use to stop biting nails. Some people pick up the possibly better habit of picking away at it. Personally, nail polish tends to wear away at least around the sides whatever I do. I just leave it until it’s gone in a while, unless I want to have it all nice for a special day.

Edit: I used to bite my nails, but braces ended that.

Yeah this totally makes sense, I just need to be better about maintaining my appearance regardless lol. And like I don't care what other people think usually, this is just for me. And being schlubby most of the time and then cleaning up nice when I need to sounds like a really good way to approach it at first until I figure myself out.

Also lol at your edit because having braces as a teen was the only time I was able to not maniacally destroy my nails, and then almost immediately went right back to it after they came off haha.

Thanks for the input, I'm gonna mull this over and see how it works out. And in the mean time I'm definitely painting my toenails regardless so I got that going for me. I've done it before and reeeaaaallly enjoyed how they looked and how it made me feel so either way that's a step forward

Thanks for the reply. I wish you luck. I don’t care what other people think of me much either, but I do like to be pretty when I look in the mirror. I should paint my toenails too.
