I'm sure Musk cares very deeply for men working dangerous thankless jobs and doesn't think them to be mindless Orcs that give him treats because he's a coastal elite billionaire manbaby.

You’d think more white men would be insulted on the idea that the only “reward” their boss wants to pay them in is being “the king of the help.”

But that’s how it always goes. The reason white boomer men are loyal lapdogs that live vicariously through Wall Street scumbags and the Koch brothers is because of the whole idea that as them all being white. They’re fellow elites too! After all, they’re the asshole boss in the domestic environment, and republicans are protecting asshole bosses in any form.

I knew an Nb who tried out as a plumber. The job was fine and they were perfectly capable of doing it, it's just that every other plumber they met was an unbelievable piece of shit. Or something about the culture being hostile to anyone who wasn't a straight white male

You'd think being a teacher in a liberal school district would be at least somewhat "progressive" but nope, just about all my fellow faculty were gambobrained hogs that liked to snicker about "feeemales" whenever they got the chance (including students libertarian-alert ) and would get really uneasy about thugs us-foreign-policy walking past their Ring/Nextdoor fortresses.

I’m pretty sure Cop-Teacher is the most common marriage in the US in terms of professions (excluding one/both spouses being unemployed or staying home).

There’s a reason why schools look and function a lot like prisons, and a certain type of chud attracted to the disciplinarian system.

Unlike cops there are decent teachers out there, who really do strive to help kids how they can. The environment and funding and support is just not there.

The environment and funding and support is just not there.

I did my best for as long as I could, but the testing industrial complex wanted kids to fail so more schools could get privatized so it was always an uphill fight to teach kids anything but the tests themselves, and I had to resort to shortcuts and the like just to try to get them to pass the corpo rituals just for their own sakes.

And oh yes, there was a lot of security theater in the school, including armed pigmask-off harassing kids constantly.

I wonder what's up with that perception. Like, I meet "progressive" teachers a lot, but that's because I largely meet "progressive" people a lot.

To a lot of fairweather liberals, they see "progressive" as "the world is full of tourist attractions and I can score sophistication points by indulging in that."

A local example was "DAE LE TACO TRUCKS" enthusiasm while at the same time muttering in "polite" us-foreign-policy company about how much they didn't like them sticking around after building their houses and maybe mowing their lawns.

One of my teachers had multiple units about the Holocaust and the Civil Rights Movement as part of the curriculum.

Photos of Abu Ghraib came out and we were watching it on the news. The student news anchors were commenting on photos of men being stripped naked and tortured about how barbaric it was. My teacher then said "Yeah but they're terrorists trying to kill us."

Most of my respect for her died that instant. She didn't care about the Holocaust because it was the fucking Holocaust. She cared because it happened to people that looked like her.

I was a plumber helper for a week and a day. I was being paid 14hr to help dig up septic pipes and drainage fields. Was never given proper PPE to touch shit with. My supervisor would blast Tom Mcdonald in the work truck and treat me like shit on the job. Which isnt universal in labores jobs Ive had supervisors who were fucking ex cons that still had control over their emotions.

Anyways that supervisor and my coworker were racist as shit. Big reason to never show up again

I find this hilarious. Like, usually I imagine McDonald as the sort of slop hogs listen to privately because it just isn't very good music, so they are basically listening to a slam poetry version of facebook boomer memes with some garbage trap beat on top, but it's all just a recitation of grievances, you aren't gonna dance to that shit. That and they use it as a shibboleth to find out if someone is Your Guy. Blasting it in public is shit taste even for a Tom McDonald fan.

I have worked between multiple Data Center Technician contracts during COVID. I was treated like shit in all of them, and the culture was heavily conservative/fascist. Those jobs need to be paid a lot more, have much better working conditions, etc. before the culture can be improved and the jobs are less discriminating to nearly everyone.

It depends on what side of the industry you on. Cushy IT Admin position at a company of half decent computer users where updating Adobe is how you keep your job? Probably a fascist.

Installer working the frontlines and in more customer oriented fields? More lib and leftist.

Funny how having jobs that imply you have power makes people more fash, as if power always corrupts and that corruption usually looks like Fascism.

power always corrupts and that corruption usually looks like Fascism

I know this was kind of an offhand comment, but I think we want to be much more measured with our critiques of power, and avoid playing fast and loose with what we label fascism.

Tons of people are able to exercise power responsibly -- lots of good teachers and parents out there -- especially when they have resources, education, and there's even minimal accountability.

Also I doubt many women want to go into strangers homes to do work for obvious reasons, in the case of cable installers. For the other jobs, a lot of times those work environments aren't as appealing to women because they get treated like shit by their male coworkers. Same goes for visibly LGBTQ people.

Part of the problem is that the New Deal, passed in coalition with Southern apartheid Democrats, promoted unions specifically in industries dominated by white men. So the jobs Elon listed are more likely than other jobs to have a union, and its probably reactionary as hell
