Also he doesn't think recognizing the actual reality that voting can take all day and you don't just get to take time off work whenever is "realistic." He said he wants to live in the real world, where voting only takes 5-10 minutes.

For most people, it does. I've never waited in a line for more than 10 minutes.

Long lines to vote have always been an issue. As long as I can remember, we go through this song and dance every single God damn election. Most cities should have negative polling locations at this point at the pace that they've been closing for 20+ years.

Also, the other thing to keep in mind is that there's always fewer places to vote early than on election day. This is also the first day of early voting, which means there's bigger crowds. And sorry, but there's no fucking way that today is the only day in 3 weeks that this guy can vote

All of these stories reek of the "black barbershop that loves Liz Warren". Astroturfed garbage to create a news story.

Every year there are technical problems with those weird fucked up voting machines you yanks use, and nothing is done.

Every year there are hours long wait times to vote, and nothing is done (although tbf that is by design)

Every year people ask why Election Day isn’t a federal holiday, and nothing is done.

Multiple times the electoral college does not match up with the popular vote, and nothing is done.

Jesus fucking Christ America, I’m just waiting for someone to up and say out loud that only white propertied folks should have the vote, because it sure as hell seems that way.

RE: the electoral college, there was a post going around on lib Facebook circles telling people to vote blue because the Democrats were the one party who wanted to finally get rid of the electoral college, and how OP would be happy to vote third party in 4 years after that is done.

I'm sure that's going to go great.

I've never used a digital voting machine or waited more than 10 minutes to vote.

Election Day as a holiday solves nothing because most people who have trouble getting to the polls are service worker's who don't get paid holidays anyway. There's already laws in place that require your job to give you time to vote (unpaid natch)

The point of the electoral college is to prevent the popular masses from picking the President. The men who wrote the Constitution made it specifically to put a check on the masses. "Checks and Balances" means "make sure that there's a check on popular rule so that the poor masses can't harm the wealthly elite", and it always has. Much like abolishing the Senate, getting rid of the electoral college is one of those things that implies tearing down the entire system.

I haven't. I have seen these news stories of black voters waiting in line every year though. People need to realize that liberals simply trot these poor people out as props/doom porn every year, and have no incentive to fix anything because then they lose their propaganda.

I have a problem with the whole mentality that if voting changed things, they would make it illegal. This is blatant voter suppression and is close to making voting illegal.

It's actually more insidious than making voting illegal.

It's a way to essentially disallow certain groups from voting - people of colour, young people, immigrants, the working class etc - by diluting their voting power down enough that it cannot swing the result. Yet because some votes are counted and those groups aren't explicitly excluded from the process, it nullifies the obvious injustice and ease with which people can band together to challenge it.

Yeah, there's a lot of tension between "Republicans know how power works and aren't afraid to play dirty to win" and "despite the decades of blatant Republican attempts at voter suppression I still don't believe voting matters lol."

If people can't see how the Dems are controlled opposition, I should hope that Democrats screaming "VOTE" ad naseum while Trump is actively doing voter suppression wakes people up.

It's like if you were playing rock paper scissors for your life and the Republicans always do rock and the dems are telling you "Scissors!"

Lol yes in some states. It's a pretty well publicized political battle, given that it's a form of voter suppression.

This doesn't regularly happen in most countries of the world. Like let's be real, an election isn't that hard to properly do.
