I keep my notifications blocked with a browser extension for mental health management reasons, but I unblocked it yesterday to check something and saw that I'd apparently been included in the password invite list. I am/was very flattered, but had already decided at the time that I was happy enough to just enjoy the collective efforts of the people already using the account and knew the magic would fade if I were to make myself a part of it.
All this is to say. Wasn't me.
I'll miss the bit, but I was pleasantly surprised every day that it stayed active. I only saw good to mid-at-worst posts from the account and think on balance the experiment was a success and positive time for the community. But it is right that it should end while it remained a net positive. It was probably inevitable that it would end up abused. It was pretty funny yesterday watching a 20+ user collective account keep one terminally online smuglord engaged in an 8+ hour argument. Like, that's almost a perfect note to end on.
Whoever was using it to report etc, that's spineless and selfish behavior and you should do some self crit. This is a microcosm example of the general rule that "we can't have nice things."
If you're going to participate in a struggle session, do it on your main account. Stop hiding behind the anonymous bit account so we can still have nice things.
rip bureaucrat
i'm just surprised that it managed to exist for a month
i really enjoyed when bureaucrat was doing silly wholesome bits in the beginning but the account should've never been used for anonymous serious posting and as a shield for no accountability. honestly a shame tbh but i think bureaucrat has run it's course like others have said here.
I think its a fun bit, but it should probably be limited to a few comms (this one, maybe a few of the less serious ones like /c/gaming etc.). This would also cut down on people using it for arguing.
I think it's too late for that because the account lost any goodwill it might have had. Even we changed the password, it's just not worth the effort. That would have been a good thing to do when it first opened.
Until this, I was genuinely impressed that we stayed out of the specific community megas for the most part, so I don't think anybody used it for pretending to be a different gender or ethnicity or anything. We had some unspoken rules that I hoped would stick, but people can't help themselves and even with restrictions, it'll just happen again. Was just a matter of how long it took.
Bureaucrat did post in the em_poc mega once, which is why the ban was able to be made. It's always possible that the person using the account at the time was an em_poc but of course it's impossible to tell.
Makes sense. I know we had a few posts in the trans mega too. Hard to keep up with our posting pace. But in any case, either we get banned or delete the account. The OP of this post and the one arguing with mods are asleep or something.
I was talking with CARCOSA in the other thread, do you think that Bureaucrat posts being deanonymized only for mods/admins would improve this?
I think that would ruin the experiment. It was perfect the way it was. It is okay to let it go. It's a testament to the community that it survived so long, I expected it to be banned within a day.
There's no way to currently do that because there's no way to link accounts to other accounts. We could theoretically make a list of everyone we shared the password with but you cant link posts to individual posters.
just let it go, it was a neat experiment that failed spectacularly. Just another fun bit of site lore now.
this was all very predictable and the account should be deleted now.
Yeeeeeeah at first this was a funny bit; and then in the span of two days, I see someone on that account being... Generally gross (that 'can I s/ your d/' harassment removal), then one of y'all tried reporting something out of em_poc????? Nah, I'm about where I'm at with this bit where I'd be with any other malfeasant polly on this white-assed forum. Any of y'all got a problem, you can say it with your whole chest; but this... This hiding behind a communal account bullshit is not it.
There's a reason that I never took up the offer to get the password to this bit account; and that's because I believe in standing on my own square, ten toes down on any of the shit I say. And while I'm here? It's hella dogmade how someone here with mod power is going through and pruning out one of the most salient voices in calling this account's fuckery to the fore.
Like honestly, is Awoo in there or some shit?
The fact that this dumb bit account was used for this shit so quickly... disappointed in the site ngl
It was going fine but at least one of the people we shared the password with was temp banned and got pissy. I don't think they're the same person who posted some of the other removed comments, but that lit the fire.
If we delete the account, that removes all the comments, yeah? Or is that optional? I'd want to leave them up unless mods take them down so everyone can see our folly.
There is an option to delete the account but leave the comments
Here goes nothing. Thanks for letting us stick around as long as we did, it was fun for a little while!

Someone could change the password, would log everyone out, keeping the account
There's a reason that I never took up the offer to get the password to this bit account; and that's because I believe in standing on my own square, ten toes down on any of the shit I say.
Damn right. Post on your main or get banned on your alt like a coward
Bureaucrat is the only mod in the comm, so it’s someone removing comments with the account (edited for clarity)
Different Bureaucrat, but I just restored the comments, I think. I've never used the mod tools before and couldn't even figure out how on mobile.
Nah I restored the comments. If you wanna use the tools then you gotta click the three dots underneath a comment
Genuinely impressive it didn't happen sooner tbh, I do think it's like one person on that account ruining it for everyone which sucks but the well has been poisoned
I do think it's like one person on that account ruining it for everyone which sucks but the well has been poisoned
Best delineator of where I'm at tbh. Like, it could be a dozen people on that account that otherwise, I'd genuinely like and typically be able to hash shit out with on a level of mutual understanding; but when you've got somebody in there tryna stir shit in a community they have nothing to do with, the failure points of the bit become very apparent and now I don't feel I can trust anything coming out of it.
I was one of the people in there. It's just been put down. But it had upwards of 30~ people that were sent the password.
ITT: Bureaucrat showing why Bureaucrat should be banned
It doesn't work if some people are using it for funny bits and others are using it to report PoC users for calling white people crackers and drama post
Edit: And now banning people and deleting comments in this thread. Who's the anonymous evil mod now, loser
ShowWatching this account get used for upset back and forth arguments quoting every line of the previous reply feels like such a violation of the tone of the bit it's honestly kinda upsetting
I'll stop now, I'm really sorry, I just feel like I'm being misinterpreted and was accused of sexual harassment and I just wanted to know what it was I did wrong and now I'm being accused of all sorts of stuff.
the argument is much larger than that, stop trying to seem innocent when you're using a meme account to argue with people, including an admin
It's clear as crystal. People can be assholes with no accountability. I could log on bureaucrat to be a dick and mods would have no way of knowing it was me, or be able to see if i had a pattern of bad faith.
I liked the bit yesterday where the bureaucracy all poked a shitlib, which i bet was very confusing. To be quite frank though, yesterday was the first day i found the bit good. Most of the rest of the time i am between ambivalent and annoyed by the bureau.
Never really had a formed opinion on bureau but thinking about it more, considering the propensity for misuse, i agree that this bit aint it. If y'all like it I'm still ok with it but best keep that shit in check or no one will mourn it's passing
Damn that sucks if that's what happened. I'd have loved to see the reported comment though before I believe it.
post on your main you racist coward
or better yet, never post here again
newsflash, if an em_poc is complaining about white people to other em_poc, that is not sectarianism lol.
cracker confirmed, thinks hating on white people is sectarianism lmaoooooo
h
how is this hostile, like extra hostile
do you consider me calling you a 'cracker' hostility, genuine question
No not at all. I consider you assumming the worst possible interpretation of what I wrote and then entrenching that to be hostile. You assume I am making a struggle session, you assume I am mad about the word cracker used, you assume the worst every time and then go on to belittle me. That's hostile.
Thanks for asking a question to clarify your doubt for once.
how is it the worst possible interpretation when that is literally what the modlog said. Thats just like, the first interpretation based on the evidence. I trust the EM POC moderators more on this issue, especially more than, again, a literal sockpuppet.
As for the cracker thing its because i was, again, genuinely confused at why your reacting like im being extra hostile or mean when this is just regular hexbear hostility. I also have little sympathy for someone who hides their posting from behind a bit account. Should i do the thing where i take your account and make you argue about nonsense so we can have fun instead?
Accountability is literally impossible if people keep on having alts or finding ways to anonymize their actions. "Opsec" can as much be an excuse to escape accountability. This applies to both the admins/mods and users.
The way out is do what the vast majority of forums did in the past, which is to reward old users and penalize new users. However, I suspect this will never be used because it quickly leads to the formation of power usersTM, goes against the spirit of Hexbear being "egalitarian."
I wasn't really being very serious, just pointing out how funny it is to see unnamed user banned from a comm by unnamed mod.
Yeah whoever is using bureaucrat to complain about anonymized moderator actions is being very silly
No what I'm saying is that mods have the original Bureaucrat nature, a protected/inaccessible stratified tier of metaposting.
A digital version of the Forbidden City, if you will.
hexbear has literally been able to entirely reshuffle the mods and admins of the site multiple times over the past year, the admins/mods are less stratified than the average forum but no different than any other youd find anywhere else.
Oh yeah that is also silly
I feel like I'm caught in some peoples argument and it sucks.People's Argument of Hexbear
Ah, the official name of this website.
It's in the final season of What We Do In The Shadows, it's done tastefully too
