Prometheus? Covenant? Must have knocked your head pretty hard there 'bud.
Have you tried Aliens: Infestation? It was a Nintendo DS game and I think it was made by Sega. It was basically a Metroidvania style game with the Aliens license. You are on a ship with a crew of 4 characters to play from and you have weapons from the movies as you travel and progress through the ship. Similar to Castlevania SOTN, you get stuck in places that require you to backtrack and look for keys or items so you can continue exploring. When you die, you lose one of your characters and have to go find a new marine to replace them with. This creates a pretty interesting survival horror type scenario.
Prometheus and Covenant had some cool images but otherwise sucked. The writing in particular was amazingly bad.
I liked when the ship exploded and the alien dog thing ran off into the grass. The rest of the movie seemed to have been directed, produced, written, and acted by a bag of cocaine.
I liked Prometheus. It wasn't great, but it was pretty entertaining. Covenant did suck though
I liked Prometheus when I saw it. It’s called an icebox movie. I forget who coined the term, maybe Hitchcock, but it’s basically a movie you enjoy until a few hours later you’re hunting for chicken in the icebox and you suddenly realize that nothing about the movie made any sense.
I specifically liked how the mysterious planet was just outside of the orbit of Jupiter.
So that's where that's from! I've only ever heard it as fridge logic, from tvtropes
Alien is one of my favorite movies and it's also based as hell.
-
Bad ass female main protagonist (and gender and race play almost 0 role in the film)
-
Protagonists are a bunch of working-class space truckers just trying to make a living
-
The real villian is the evil mega corporation overlord and its robotic lackey
-
Cat is saved
Fuck I need to go watch it again now.
The scene where Ash forces her to deepthroat a porno mag wouldn't have worked if Ripley was a dude.
-
Resurrections is good, if you take it as a B movie and AVP2 is a great slasher flic
I feel ridley Scott has been loosing it the last few decades... But aside from his terrible Alien movies i haven't seen most of his post 9/11 releases (they feel like very 'Murrica Material...) I hear his new series "Raised by wolves" has gained some notoriety and i want to see it just because Peter Watts hated it with passion!
wtf is this premise?
Sunbros vs rationalwiki??
T posing terminators??
Man that sounds so dumb, at least when taken out context
Sunbros VS rationalWiki was just the correct framing i needed to watch it! Time to stock up on cheap liquor!
The pilot is some of the best work Ridley has made in DECADES, but it quickly descends into the same mediocrity that plagued Prometheus and the Alien sequels. It's still a decent enough show, especially considering the weak field of contestants this year, but I was frustrated that it couldn't maintain the high quality set by its first 3 episodes.
"Not maintaining the high quality of the first few episodes " Seems like an apt description of most TV done today sadly =C
Raised by wolves started off very promising and then got... weird. Worth the watch tbh
I just enjoyed the first two episodes then gave up when things started to turn south for me.
There are only two Alien movies so I don't know what you're talking about.
Also Alien >>>>>>>>> Aliens.
You'd be surprised at the amount of people who like Aliens (and Judgement Day for that matter) more but maybe it's because I hadn't found a leftist space at the time.
Tbf the Blomkamp movie probably would have been shit too. He hasnt made anything good since District 9
Elysium and Chappie are flawed but light-years ahead of any other recent Hollywood SF.
I remember being so hyped about rumours that Blomkamp was going to direct the Halo movie, nothing ever came of it and then Chappie came out and I can't stand Die Antwoord so I just stopped paying attention

More than one of us here.
I feel like the prequel stuff is that habit new media has of wanting to explain every little thing rather than leaving it up to mystery and interpretation.

It's part of extracting as much value as possible out of an intellectual property. Giving the nerds stuff to obsess over builds brand loyalty.
I wish Blomkamp was able to go through with that Halo movie. Would have been neat.
I thought covenant was really good, but I was awfully distracted with and impressed by the surround sound mixing, it was the first film I saw in theatres in years
I thought the notion of eliminating all life (especially humans) in the universe was way more terrifying than anything else in the film, and I thought it was super creepy how fixated the robot dude was with it. I remember being more creeped out and scared by the scene where he was talking about eradicating all humans in this totally normal tone than any of the gore scenes like where that woman got her head bit off. The ending was really good too although kind of predictable.
But definitely my favourite part was the audio. The one scene where it was raining outside and the alien was walking up the wall, the rain audio was panned to like the back left speaker it was so perfectly atmospheric but I get that audio is not most peoples first priority lol
Prometheus is pretty decent, especially now that Covenant exists. Killing off Noomi is cowardice. Also, I don't get the Alien hype. Aliens and Prometheus are the only ones that I'll defend.
yeah it's very bizarre that Alien, Covenant and Prometheus are all kinda repeats of one another. Aliens,3 and Resurrection at least tried to shake it up a bit
It also sucks that I kinda thought that was what Aliens were? Weapons by the engineers? Have I completely misread Prometheus? Ah well, head canon is just as strong for me honestly
Still pales in comparison to Alien Resurrection busting up Jeunet + Caro's working relationship.
I wanted the full Vietnam War movie (based on this) where the Vietnamese guy starts warping reality and fucking up the Americans. They tried to crowdfund it and failed :sadness: .
