Like everything, it starts with an organic foundation then slowly gets absorbed by capitalism. They're now brand reps more than anything. Subscribe to curiositystream, BlueApron, and watch your favorite streamer take an extended, nonchalant sip from their favorite [brand] soda, replete with logo mugging the camera lens.

This forum spends way too much time and energy announcing to itself that a vague collection of YouTubers are not communist enough. Is vaguely progressive media analysis going to lead to the revolution? No. Is some internet media personality making a full-throated rallying call for your personal favorite tendency going to lead to the revolution? Also no. Is wringing your hands about this even less useful to the cause than the media personalities in question? Yes.

yeah but if you don't publicly denounce those youtubers then people might assume that you watch them

but for real the only reason I know what "breadtube" is is from all the people here who complain about it. i would have loved to go my entire without hearing about youtubers like vaush or contra or whoever

Yeah. Breadtube is not really my thing, but we really spend to much time mad.

The issue with breadtube is that it has very shallow analysis. I personally don't mind the corporate sponsors if that's their way to make a living. Every worker is a slave to capitalism at the end of the day.

After enough time to consider and place into context, sure, but I think we'd all have a negative visceral response if Felix and Matt broke off to talk about audible or NordVPN.

Yeah, but they have the luxury of making 120,000 dollars or whatever a month on Patreon

Big Money Salvia gets a pass because he actually puts some effort into his ads, to the point they're entertaining enough you can ignore the product placement.

Idk, I think a lot of people get started with shallow analysis. I don't know if these channels specifically are very effective at moving people toward deeper analysis; the few I do watch, I treat more as entertainment than education personally. But I don't think that's a sufficient justification for dismissing media that never claimed to be academic in the first place.

Usually I just want to hear about the subject or the case he's making and having his face take up most of the frame is distracting and makes me uncomfortable.

I mean the ironic thing is he's probably to the left of 90% of "Breadtube". He regularly quotes Lenin and Franz Fanon.

He's had a few lib takes but really, compared to most Breadtube dweebs I'd say he's way closer to us politically.

    photogenic people

We talking about the same Breadtube here?

HBomber guy is half a decade younger than me but he looks like he's on the verge of death.

Peter Coffin looks like some necromancer experiment gone wrong.

Thought Slime and Folding Ideas aren't ugly but I wouldn't pay for nudes of either of them either.

Bad Mouse was okay looking but he also noped away from the public eye.

Vaush is so fucking ugly he made a whole metro area cry tears of joy when he left tinder.

I've seen picks of 2 of the 3 Well There's Your Problem hosts and I guess Justin is kinda cute if you have a thing for bears. Liam just looks like that one frat dude you hang out with even thought you know he's kinda douche.

Idk what the Cuck Philosophy guy looks like, but he's a Lithuanian Phil Major, so I can take a guess.

It's really just Olly and Contra then. So two outta fucking everyone. And I guess that lady who was married to Peter Coffin but I've never watched her shit.

Yeah I'm struggling to think of any others.

Politics in media is entertainment in America. I don’t think “Breadtube” is much different. The Hasan AOC/Ilhan stream was probably the peak of that. I don’t really doubt Hassan’s sincerity in his beliefs, but that is partially why the AOC stream was such a perfect and blatant example of what kind of ideological prison we are living in. Even if they aren’t directly shilling products, it’s just an indie talk show.

Breadtube™ was never good. Yes it occasionally converts fascist kids into succ dems but no more than most other types of media or even just social interaction does lmao. The based ones never made it big because it doesn’t appeal to the terminally online white American teenager.

sounds more like those streamers just trying to make a living by streaming....IDK, it is annoying, they're like ads that you can't as easily skip. but the way I see it they're just trying to pay their bills too, if sitting through an ad helps and I like the channel then I don't mind it
