Green New Deal would increase mineral extraction by 150%.

Mineral extraction accounts for 50% of our CO2 emissions right now.

The only solution to climate change is to reduce energy consumption. This can not happen under capitalism.

Advocates for the Green New Deal need to recognize they are not fighting for climate action. They are fighting an economic dispute between mineral & oil extraction companies.

The primary objective is to end global supply chains and localize production.

In the Global North, labor needs to be directed away from service work. In the Global South, labor must be directed away from export commodity production. Across the globe, labor must be directed towards the development of local means of production.

The Green New Deal is the "climate plan" that will much more exploitative towards the Global South. It's just an advertising campaign for mineral extraction.

So, feudalism is not a specific set of class relations? It's actually "when I can't buy Gautamalan bananas at Walmart"?

Your argument here is that we need to fundamentally abandon all industrial production

Literally never said this? Industry can exist without the global supply chains which exist today.

it’s that it needs a fucking lot of uncompensated labor to work

Why must the labor be uncompensated? You are presupposing class relations again

it historically pushes extremely hard towards the enserfment of labor

What historical example are you using? Every socialist government has carried out the "abolish international commodity production and develop local mean of production." Cuba serves as the perfect example, given their historical role as a plantation & oil economy for the US.

I feel like nuclear energy is getting overlooked. Modern advances allow for re-enriching waste material, so it can be reintroduced into the reaction. With careful construction and planning, it's the safest, greenest, most efficient energy source we have. And it requires no new research. The tech already exists. Widespread standardization and adoption could give us the breathing room necessary to halt any more permanent warming without sacrificing living standards for most of the world. Hell, if we can force developed nations to foot the bill, it could even raise living standards in underdeveloped and exploited nations.

Modern reactors are designed with fail safely features that make a runaway reaction physically impossible. You can plonk one down in the middle of an urban center, if you like.

A serious reduction in our energy consumption is probably unavoidably gonna result in a serious reduction in human population

        No it literally isn't.

Most energy consumed in the world goes toward global commodity production for profit. It is not consumed in a rational way to maintain human life.

Energy consumption can drop dramatically while maintaining high standards of living for the masses.

Which technological development is that by the way? "you know, the thing"

The thing that annoys me the most about r/cth being banned is that, in case there was no ban, I had planned to comment on the next day´s megathread "uh... if you like your liberal subreddit you can keep it¨ and I never got the chance :angry-hex:

Fun little reddit thread where someone put a tazer on a bike then left it unlocked in a low income neighborhood so they could film people getting tazed when they steal the bike. It's amazing how redditors just sit back and wait for a chance to justify their racism. There's zero empathy or critical thought about why somebody might steal a bike, just "oh they're scumbags" or "I would never steal a bike therefore anyone who does is morally inferior to me". Like think about why you don't have to steal something you stupid fuck, you're financially comfortable enough that you don't need to. I know I'm in rant mode but this shit pisses me off so much.

All I want for Christmas is for my girlfriend to learn how to keep the cat out of the bedroom when she wakes up for work in the morning, which is usually a solid 1.5 hours before I do.

Girl needs to play some defense, the cat is very predictably waiting at the door every single morning. She just flings the door wide open and lets him run past her so I either get to hear her cursing as she tries to chase him out or he will be walking on my head or jingling a toy around in two minutes. She chose the former today and here I am awake at 6am on a Sunday morning.

On days that I'm working and she's not, I basically open the door just enough for me to squeeze through and immediately start kicking the air in the direction of the cat, which causes him to flop over on the ground and not even try anything. I think he's made it past me once. Also important to move as quickly as possible and not just meander through the door, I think part of her issue is that she is the kind of person who is half-asleep for the first couple of minutes she is out of the bed.

Dude I went to Chile, and in the same trip, in two separate ocasions staying at different hostals I woke up in the middle of the night because a cat that got into the room via a window was sleeping in my bed.

      10/10 I reccomend both places

I don't kick him, just kind of do a can-can dance and that's enough to convince him not to try running past.

Took me like five months of sleep deprivation to convince her to keep the cats out of the room at night, she sleeps like the dead but I was waking up 5+ times from them doing cat stuff and it was starting to impact my daily life.

Remember when oil prices went negative this year? That was fuckin weird. Also dumb that Canada and other petrostates are still subsidizing their oil production, like even within the capitalist mode of production where only profit matters there is still too much being produced for it to be profitable (another crisis of overproduction). This should be the great lib reformer moment where we could demand a cutting down of production of oil that would benefit 1) most producers 2) us so we don't boil to death in 20 to 30 years - but it just isn't going to happen because we don't have a rational economic system.

At some point in the not too distant past, people looked out the window and saw nothing but grey ass concrete buildings and grey ass roads packed with dirty plastic automobiles, experienced that it took them 30 minutes to travel half a mile to buy shitty ass processed food, and worked the same menial job or jumped from shitty ass job to job and went, "yeah this is great let's keep doing this."

Not sure what your PC specs are, but Disco Elysium is one of those games where how well it runs doesn't really matter.

With that being said, it's not a very demanding game, you should be able to run it fine. If you really want to test it then pirate it to see how it runs
