Trump was never a dictator, and he only channeled chud rage & relished the opportunity to do so.... outside of the judiciary, appointments largely planned before Trump ever showed up, Trump and his boomer minions got very little done

this wasn't a coup attempt... it was a bunch of Twacked out Gen Xers and boomers on holiday. And to expect much more other than a howling failure from MAGA dopes is really reaching. America can be a hyperracialized neo-fascist police state with or without Trump

to create a boogieman where one never really existed is all libs know

Still not sure why protestors getting killed in the capitol means it was a coup attempt lol. Whether some idiots in the crowd coordinated on apps beforehand to try and get into Nancy Pelosi's office is far different than the entire operation being intended to make demands or take hostages or upset the transfer of power in any real/coercive way. They didn't accomplish that, and wouldn't have

The Bolivian coup is different because there was blatant foreign/imperial meddling & jailing/exile of adversaries... so imo the comparison you made there was in bad faith

So basically if voters believe their guy won and the Deep State reptile synthetics cheated them, they can say they are preventing Biden from doing a coup lol

Whether something is a coup or a failed coup completely depends on legitimacy and whether one can be passed off as the other.

You're trying to pass a failed non-coup attempt off as a failed coup attempt... and that's not really what evidence reveals

but I guess if we lend most credence to what social media and MSM say, Trump's dastardly deeds may have carried us all straight into the pits of damnation if it weren't for Twitter bans and Mike Pence usurping Presidential authority

Amy Schumer was arrested in the Capitol in 2018 during protests over the Kavanaugh confirmation

check out this video.... the MAGAs weren't "let in" at every entrance,

                    https://twitter.com/i/status/1347610932910952448

and I think it was a dicey situation overall, but to give the boomers & deadbeat MAGA dads the benefit of the doubt that they were definitely in sight of some "goal" is steel-manning their "movement" beyond recognition

But there wasn't. That's the point. Everyone is getting worked up at what could have happened instead of focusing on what did and is happening.

Your comparison sucks. Bernie was not a figure that had any institutional power (outside of his senate seat) nor was there any particular event around which an incident like this could have occured. Not would Bernie of all people be the one to lead such a fight, as that doesn't fit his historical temperament.

Does this group of right wing protestors have a financial advantage over the left? Of course they do. They are literally the petite bougious that trumps caters to. However, they are not more organized than the left, at least not this particular group. What they benefited from is some form of relationship with the DC police that is unclear, but enough to allow a total security failure around the Capitol. They don't have access to the secret service, they don't have access to the actual police state apparatus. What they do have is a years long developed social media presences (QAnon mileau), but that does not imply actual cadre organization or long term goals or planning.

Is the storming of the Capitol a big deal? Yes. Yet, much like 9/11, it is a big deal not because of the event in-of-itself, but because of the reaction the state is going to have towards it, which will have rippling effects that we are going to feel years from now.

Look, I don't want to go all 'debate-bro' but calling people childish and dooming doesn't help anybody here.

Absolutely. Right wingers with confederate flags trying to storm the capitol building, and instead of stopping them, the capitol police takes selfies with them and invites them in. Of course, police siding against protestors is shit,l as seen with BLM the last years, but not defending government institutions is a sign of something else

I dont see how it's even remotely a coup when literally the only reason they are doing this is because he is getting removed from office. He's the outgoing president, so all the privileges that kept him protected the last four years are getting stripped away.

No it isn't. That is literally how our government has worked for a while now. The President isn't some god king whose word is law, they are a puppet whose strings are pulled by the deep state and capitalist interests and it is in no way a subversion of power for them to yank him in their direction. Ffs Henry Kissinger had to practically rip the phone out of Nixon's hand to cancel a nuclear strike on North Korea. The jet ski dealership crew were at least trying to get an election thrown out, the President being a figurehead with no actual power is just how America is.

square me up here: how is it not an (attempted) coup to try to retain power for a person already in charge, setting competence aside? also, i can see the argument for preemptive removal from power being a coup, but i find it hard to call the slowass us transition of power a coup if it just gets sped up by literally only a week or two

they didn't intend to subvert it because they literally believed that the election was rigged/stolen lol. they want their bourgeois dictatorship, & believe it was already coup'd from them by the Deep State lol

so in their minds, they are preventing Biden's stolen election/ coup

you see where resorting to using this strong terminology in the MAGA chuds' case gets us into trouble

God, “coup” is becoming the new “socialism”.

Following the established rules of bourgeois politics? Coup!

    Winning an election? Coup!

A few morons taze themselves at the capitol? Coup!

Someone gets banned from Twitter? Coup!

You have to let fascists do a coup and you can't do anything about it or then those things might be used to hurt leftists at some point in the future maybe apparently

This delusional contrarian viewpoint brought to you by wreckers who have fried their brains with drugs and hatred of libs by staring at twitter for years

They tried and failed because of their own stupidity and incompetence, guess we can only treat it as legitimate once they have seized power and we can't do anything, libs will be so pwned and we can say "now THIS is fascism", epic style

What exactly are "we" doing in this situation? I'm not a senator. I don't even own any stock in Twitter. What this "deplatforming" amounts to is powerless liberals begging the unelected, unaccountable, invisible masters of capital to save us from the similarly powerless fascists.

Everyone saying this is a bad take missed the nuance here, this is a comparison not an absolute. This doesn't call anything a coup, just points out that what's happening with the trump blackout and talks of removing him from power has more coup characteristics than a bunch of petty bouge tasing themselves in the balls at the Capitol. People calling the chuds treading on themselves a coup is silly. That's the point being made.

What? People at the top censoring and talking about removing the current head of state is absolutely more coup-like than a bunch of aimless right-wingers wandering around the capitol without doing anything for a few hours. It's not reactionary to say that lol read a book

It's technicalities. Technically they are cutting off the president of the United States from major communications platform and technically they are taking away his power. These actions are justified of course, and should be done, so that's the point here
